Linda Burney Instagram - It was a lovely evening catching up with friends Julia Gillard and Commissioner June Oscar at the launch of the Wiyi Yani U Thangani Institute last night.

Labor has a long history of supporting First Nations gender equality and our government is committed to continuing that progress.
Linda Burney Instagram - History is coming home! Four spears taken by Captain Cook and Joseph Banks at the time of first contact are returning home to the La Perouse Aboriginal Community.

The return of the Gweagal Spears is a significant step forward on the journey towards reconciliation and truth-telling.

Bringing our history back home provides an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, young and old, to build a greater understanding of our shared national story.

Congratulations to the La Perouse Aboriginal Community on the decades of work and advocacy to return the Gweagal Spears, which will have a lasting positive impact on future generations.

Linda Burney Instagram - No matter where you live, you deserve the opportunity to thrive.

In Maningrida this week, I met so many people who are passionate about working to make it a better place for future generations.

Our Government is working with communities across Australia to make a difference and close the gap.
Linda Burney Instagram - We're building a better Ngurra, the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Precinct, at the Acton Peninsula in Canberra.

We'll transform AIATSIS to include a National Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Centre.

And we'll deliver a National Resting Place to house and care for First Nations ancestral remains.

So that Australians and international visitors have the opportunity to learn, experience and engage with over 65,000 years of culture, tradition and story.
Linda Burney Instagram - Great news! We’re making a landmark investment in remote housing across the Northern Territory.

The 10-year commitment by the Federal and Northern Territory Governments will see up to 270 homes built each year, with the goal of halving overcrowding. It also includes continued support for repairs and maintenance.

This investment is a game changer that will make a difference to the lives of so many Aboriginal people living in remote communities.

It’s not just an investment in housing, it’s an investment in people.

Increasing housing supply will ease overcrowding, which we know is a major barrier to closing the gap.

This government is committed to improving housing in remote communities and closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Linda Burney Instagram - The Larapinta Trail is a breathtaking trek through Arrernte Country in Central Australia. Now more people can see its beauty thanks to an investment by our government in the Larapinta Trail Tourism Project.

100% Finke River Culture and Adventures is a First Nations owned and operated tourism organisation that is delivering the project. By working in partnership, we’re creating jobs for the community, building local tourism and celebrating Arrernte culture.

It’s just one way that we’re building a better, safer future in Central Australia.

Linda Burney Instagram - Today is Mabo Day – the anniversary of the historic Mabo High Court Decision.

Eddie Mabo's tireless activism for the Meriam people in the Torres Strait lead to the recognition of native title rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians across the country.

He was a giant of the movement for First Nations land rights and his impact is felt to this day.
Linda Burney Instagram - More than 250,000 people marched for reconciliation in 2000, 24 years ago this week.

Marching across the Sydney Harbour Bridge was a remarkable feeling, and a beautiful show of what we can achieve when we come together.

Were you lucky enough to walk with us that day?
Linda Burney Instagram - Your postcode shouldn’t determine whether you can get a job. So we’re working with remote communities to create 3,000 jobs that deliver services communities want.

Our First Nations Reference Group met for the second time today to help us design a program that leads to real economic development in remote Australia.

We’re making sure young people get a say with Tremane and Rhea joining us today.

Linda Burney Instagram - Meet the Liddles! They were homeless for three months, now they're moving into new affordable housing.

Over 40 First Nations families will get a roof over their heads, after a $20 million investment from the Aboriginals Benefits Account in the Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation. They've invested in 42 homes that will be leased to employed, low-income First Nations families.

This boost in housing supply in the Greater Darwin area will help ease overcrowding and make a huge difference to people’s lives.

The Albanese Labor Government is making a difference. We're making an historic 10-year investment in remote housing that will build up to 270 homes each year, so more families can have a roof over their head.
Linda Burney Instagram - Today we bid farewell to Aunty Fay Carter OAM, proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta Elder.

She lived a life dedicated to improving the lives of Victoria’s Aboriginal community.

She made her mark in Victoria, including by helping to establish the Aboriginal Community Elders Service, and the landmark 2013 native title settlement which formally recognised the Dja Dja Wurrung People as the Traditional Owners of the lands in central Victoria.

She will be sorely missed by many and it was fitting that her memory was recognised at a state funeral in Victoria today.
Linda Burney Instagram - Major housing projects, like this one in Ramingining, are underway across East Arnhem Land. They're creating local jobs and helping ease overcrowding in remote communities.

Overcrowding makes it harder for First Nations children to get the best start in life, and we know many poor health outcomes start with overcrowding.

So we're doing something about it by fixing remote housing.

Our landmark joint investment for housing in remote communities across the Northern Territory will help close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Linda Burney Instagram - A heartfelt day with Coota Girls survivors in Sydney today.

Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation is one of many organisations supporting survivors of the Stolen Generations.

We are supporting Stolen Generations organisations by investing $3.5 million for healing.

Linda Burney Instagram - 20 years ago, Michael Long walked 650km from Melbourne to Canberra.

He put Indigneous rights and justice on the national agenda.

It was energising to walk with Longy and thousands of others ahead of Dreamtime at the G in the Sir Doug Nichols Round.

Linda Burney Instagram - Thanks for having a yarn, Roseranna! She's the Chair of Ikuntji Artists at Ikuntji/Haasts Bluff.

They're a not-for-profit Aboriginal art centre creating jobs in Central Australia.

Producing some beautiful art too, exporting culture and creativity across the world.
Linda Burney Instagram - Uluru comes alive in our current passport when you shine a UV light on it, how cool is that!

I especially love how the stitching through the middle turns red, yellow and black.

What do you love about this design?
Linda Burney Instagram - Connecting with Elders and Country is so important for our youth. On-country, community-led programs keep kids engaged in school while connecting them to culture.

One of these is the Junior Ranger program, which partners kids and schools with local Indigenous ranger programs. Kids get to learn more about their culture and are excited to head to school and stay engaged.

So we’re expanding the Junior Ranger program to 50 new sites across Australia. This means more students can take part in this amazing project, just like these students from Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School in Coffs Harbour NSW.

The Junior Ranger program has delivered proven results by keeping First Nations students engaged in school.

This is just one way the Albanese Government is investing in closing the gap and making a difference.

Linda Burney Instagram - Dino and Darren from Black As stopped by to have a yarn today.

They make some incredible videos showcasing life in remote Arnhem Land.

It's fantastic to see Aboriginal culture celebrated and enjoyed by so many around the world because of their work. Keep it up!
Linda Burney Instagram - They would be the last to tell anyone, but Peter and Matthew here have done something rather amazing.

They’re two of the four people in Barton who were recognised for their service to our community on Australia Day. I caught up with both of them for morning tea to thank them for their important work.

Dr Matthew Chu received a membership of the Order of Australia for his work in emergency medicine, and Peter Leondaritis received a medal for his long service to the Greek Australian community.

So many Australians like Peter and Matthew go above and beyond for the community, and they don’t do it for recognition. But let’s give them a big congratulations for their achievements.
Linda Burney Instagram - It was humbling to be in the presence of those who gave so much for our country, as our community came together this morning to pay respect to all those who have served our nation in war, conflict and peacekeeping.

It was a beautiful ANZAC Day commemoration with Kogarah RSL and the Member for Kogarah, Premier Chris Minns.

Thank you to everyone who came out to remember the sacrifice of those who have served.

Lest We Forget.

Eddie Mabo's tireless activism for the Meriam people in the Torres Strait lead to the recognition of native title rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians across the country.

He was a giant of the movement for First Nations land rights and his impact is felt to this day.

Marching across the Sydney Harbour Bridge was a remarkable feeling, and a beautiful show of what we can achieve when we come together.

Were you lucky enough to walk with us that day?

Our First Nations Reference Group met for the second time today to help us design a program that leads to real economic development in remote Australia.

We’re making sure young people get a say with Tremane and Rhea joining us today.

It was a beautiful ANZAC Day commemoration with Kogarah RSL and the Member for Kogarah, Premier Chris Minns.

Thank you to everyone who came out to remember the sacrifice of those who have served.
