Jessenia Gallegos Instagram – All we have is our name. It’s what we were given at birth. It’s what we die with. Took me a long time to love my name. I was made fun of it. It was changed by many & I’ve had to conform. I went “viral” way before there was IG. At the time was a nursing student when I got discovered on the # 1 tv show by the biggest Victoria Secret Model; Tyra Banks on a segment by the # 1 talked about & watched celebrity: Kim Kardashian. You don’t see it in this clip but there’s the full version of the aired show and I corrected Tyra “ it’s Jessenia not Jazzenya Ms Banks” in a very timid voice. Soon after I went by an alias for my modeling Jessenia Vice. Landed the covers of domestic & international covers. Had 6-15 page spreads. Getting printed in a major mag wasn’t a simple task you had to be booked. Today ppl ask fans pay for votes for digital covers. After print work. I started TV & Radio hosting for MUN2, SPIKE TV , MTV3 & more. Around the time I got booked for major music videos& landed world wide campaigns such as Nellys Apple Bottom Clothing. During the time I had gained a major fan base. I lost it all when I left my abuser. He held it hostage but I created a new page & kept it parked for when I was ready. I took time off to heal. When I was ready the industry change. No more print mags. Grls did videos for free. And campaigns went by your following not your portfolio. I had to start over with ZERO after having MILLIONS. I may not have millions of followers today but I do get invited to big events bc ppl remember what I did as an Ecuadorian Indigenous Latina in hiphop & in mainstream. I droppped VICE after surviving my abuser. I went by just Jessenia , for my music especially & my acting. Oh & I recently had to fight for my name: Jessenia took the last 3yrs of fighting to have it. S/o to my lawyer. It’s a long story. So when I politely correct someone & they continue & not even try; please understand where I’m coming from. Believe me I come from very humble beginning. Being bullied & abused will humble u quick.
