Scott Mills Instagram – What an honour to be given the LGBTQ Advocate Award last night.
In my time of having a national platform, we’ve gone from a place where I was advised to come out as gay in a magazine when I joined Radio 1 (before the newspapers did it for me) to doing a daily show on Europes biggest radio station where I feel totally comfortable talking about my husband and our life together.
A place where people of all ages on the street will congratulate you on your wedding.
Being gay used to be front page news. Not even that long ago. It has evolved.
Having said that, there is still some way to go for our community. EVERYONE deserves the right to express themselves openly, associate freely, and live without discrimination.
We must continue to break down barriers, and open doors for others to walk through.
I appreciate this recognition of the part I’ve played in this so much. Thank you ❤️
