Ana Navarro Instagram – My mom would be turning 84 today. I want to share a story I talked about at the @DNC. When my mom died in 2021, @kamalaharris called me and helped me navigate my grief. I told her I shouldn’t be sad, because I was luckier than so many in that I had a spectacular mom until I was almost 50. Kamala -who had lost their mom to cancer in 2009- told me not to underestimate my grief by comparing it to other’s. She told me loss and sadness was the cost of having loved and been loved. She told me to find ways of keeping my mom with me. Pictures, songs, things she liked. She said she keeps a favorite picture of her mom, who loved to cook, in her kitchen, so she feels they are cooking together. I laughed and told her my mom couldn’t boil water. Oh, how I wish our moms were still alive.

Kamala took the time to listen as I cried and told her stories about my mom. Kamala’s words helped me so much at one of the saddest times of my life. As President, she will invariably be called upon to lift and console the country in times of tragedy. There are bound to be tornadoes, fires, hurricanes, mass shootings… I know Kamala can embrace the country, hold us in a big warm hug, because she did it with me. Only things Donald Trump can hold, are a grudge and a golf-club. | Posted on 25/Aug/2024 20:47:51
