I grew up at Lagos Island and started playing street soccer around there too. I told my coach I wanted to stop playing soccer after losing a game. I said “I’m not playing ball again ”.
He then asked someone to come call me back and tried to cheer me. It still rings in my head till now and my coach usually makes fun of me.
I learned a lot.
This pitch was my first step towards pro soccer. I realized that I could go pro, because I scored numerous goals against top defenders…and men…on this pitch.
This will always be a special place to me.
