Today, I want you to know more about Labour MP @carolynharrismp. She isn’t without controversy (well behaved woman rarely make history!), but she is a total warrior on behalf of women and the menopause
Establishing @menopausemandate with Chair @mariella_frostrup a few years ago (I’m an Ambassador along with many other ‘celebs’) she has this week successfully pushed in Parliament for a Menopause assessment to be included with the free NHS Age 40 health check. So far, menopause has not been included. It would be cost-neutral so a WIN-WIN all round.
Carolyn is a woman fighting on behalf of other women, I’ve seen her in action many times, and she’s deeply impressive, kind and big hearted. She’s 63 (like me) and only became an MP (Swansea) in 2015 after a pretty hard life. Her son Martin died in 1989, and Carolyn was forced to take out a loan and rely on donations from the community to cover the funeral costs. Not wanting other families to suffer in the same way, she spoke about her grief in Parliament in 2016. She went on to press the Government to create a Children’s Funeral Fund which was announced for Wales in 2017 & for England and Scotland in May 2018.
