Deepika Venkatachalam Instagram – Theatre, art, artist, dialogues, emotions, and everything in between is what I thought “theatre” was about. And I signed up to learn, I just wanted to learn. 🎭
And trust me when I say I had no clue what was waiting for me. Working with 6 different directors, people who’ve soaked in theatre and the ones who are just testing the waters.
Out of the experiences I gained in this workshop, the live theatre was just one part of many. I cannot wait to show you everything in store. 🥹
Coming back, a live performance? Where you just have to deliver your emotions and words and expressions as it comes and as a whole crowd watches you. A slip of tongue can’t be “cut” and done again here. Each line, each emotion, each tear comes out because you are the artist and the art in one person. The learning is way too personal, solluvanga la? As a compliment for people? “ You lived the character” yeah remember?
Let me tell you, getting a renowned stage for the first time? Do I see that as an opportunity or anxiety inducing situation? I’d say both, the right guidance and the right first stage. ( @poogramster 🥹 I owe you big)
Like anyone trying something new for the first time I also was nervous, but when the lights and the background world was removed by my eyes it changed, it flipped the way I was feeling and I wish I could put it into words. I was there in my element, not as myself but as my character. Fully. ( @dliprangant the way you prepped us for the show! 🫡 )
And oh how do I not get nervous when they tell you it’s a HOUSE FULL SHOW! 🥹 ( ily people)
My take away?
Out of everything, I know in theatre you have to live the character, that’s the only way it works. Everytime I learn something new, my respect and appreciation only goes upwards. And similarly being a theatre artist, and the rawness of the art brings me nothing but respect and immense love for each person who has chosen this. Including myself for getting out of my comfort zone and getting better at things that looked huge from outside.
