on fabled Center Court, where he had won two men’s singles titles, the favorite son of the British fans, we all took in a long video retrospective of his career. To be an equal, The Fourth, in the era of Federer, Nadal,
and Djokovic says it all. And the tributes emphasized what a feminist Andy is, always on the forefront of battles for women athletes.
So much Wimbledon chat we could share, but I cannot let this week go without declaring, as I have many times before, my horror at eating contests. The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest took place in Coney Island July 4. The “Champion” … yes I use the word with
utter sarcasm … Joey Chestnut, was not there but not to worry. His record of 62 hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes still stands. Half
the world’s 8 billion people are starving.
Enough. Let’s get back to Wimbledon.
