Diana Nyad Instagram – Today is the kickoff of my Sports Monday and it’s only fitting that we begin with the upcoming Paris Olympics. I’m an Olympics junkie. How about you? Have covered several Games, been a fan at others. Did you get to see Simone Biles in her qualifying for the team? Her moves, her strength, her majesty at each gymnastics discipline are nothing short of magnificent. And to think she has come back strong from her mental issues in Tokyo four years ago. We all stand and cheer for Simone in Paris. And have you noticed that the women on our US gymnastics team are now mature women, not little girls?
Another athlete I’m going to follow is double amputee Morgan Stickney. She smashed her world record in the 400 free yesterday and was the first ParaOlympian selected for the US team. Morgan’s condition that led to both her leg amputations still sends her to the hospital ten days a month for infusions that render her weak and nauseous. She wrote me from the hospital only three weeks ago that she was suffering but would dig down and get her strength back for the Trials, which she did with her Never Ever Quit spirit. Go Simone!
