At Pierces Pledge we honor Juneteenth and the significance it holds for the American people and freedom. We also acknowledge that none of us are truly free until we are free from gun violence.
Meet Opal Lee, the mother of Juneteenth, was 89 years old when she decided to do something:
“I felt like I should walk from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C. to make people aware that Juneteenth needed to be a national holiday,” Lee explains. “So I walked two and a half miles that afternoon. The next day I got up and started where I left off. And I walked.”
