Got gowned. 16 years to the day since I graduated with my postgrad from Cardiff University School of Journalism – I was invited back to receive a fellowship and address the class of 2024. I spoke of properly brewed tea, never getting my 100 words per minute in short hand (I’m left handed, ok?), walking in the opposite direction to the crowd and nights down chip alley. If you know, you know. Plus the hat was fabulous. I’ve always loved me a good hat. Swipe to see #behindthescenes and a few other bits around town. Some things are the same; others, over. Congrats to everyone graduating. Seize that unique energy as you head out of education. You’re gonna need it. The hustle is real… Thank you to all of the teachers and parents too. Epic. #graduation #hustle #journalism #gown #hat #congrats @cardiffuni
I was so moved by @celinedion return last night at the #olympicopeningceremony in #paris. My god what she has suffered. Sometimes only work will work when your body and mind fails you. Yesterday we welcomed #CardiffGrad @emmabarnett back to Cardiff to receive an Honorary Fellowship – 16 years to the day that she graduated from our School of Journalism, Media and Culture!
It’s taken more than a year and several false starts, but finally, my newsletter, Trying, is back. To the thousands of you who signed up, stuck around and to those of you just joining, hello. Today’s post was one from the heart about our daughter and then some. A brief excerpt: “The truth is that I started this newsletter in the depths of IVF despair. It was always, as I made clear at the time, a project that was about more than assisted conception. But I know a lot of you joined me here initially because of my piece in The Times where I shared what was happening while trying for a second child. “I deliberately called this newsletter Trying because I am a trier – or at least I try to be – in all areas of my life. And I’ve decided to resume it and hope you will stay and others will join us – as we all try new things, try old things or try to manage the day to day….” Subscribe by simply putting your email address into the little box that comes up here when you paste this into your browser: https://emmabarnett.substack.com I would be delighted to have your company. And you, mine. In the meantime- have a three minute brewed tea and crank the tune on this post up (for reasons explained in this first newsletter back) and get your kitchen disco on. And just like that….She was 40. Happy, happy birthday @luckybuckley – always the last to leave the dance floor and last night at gorgeous @syp_space was no exception. London’s nightlife is lucky to have your enduring support and fabulousness. @rachelarthur and I salute you and your moves. From uni until the grave – I hope. Thank you for always bringing it. “For people like myself, and this family who’ve lost three women in the most horrendous way… Their life will never be the same.” Mina Smallman responds to @emmabarnett who asks her about the recent murder of BBC presenter John Hunt’s wife Carol and daughters Hannah and Louise. The Today Programme | Listen on BBC Sounds
You’d think @emmabarnett would want to put her feet up when she gets home from her 4am to 9.30am Today Programme shift, but she’s only getting started. Tthe BBC’s newest Today recruit and former Woman’s Hour host then begins her latest side-hustle: scouting out new London landmarks, liaising with designers and — until recently — stuffing envelopes with copies of the new series of London colouring books that she and her husband launched last year. At the link in bio, She and her husband tell @katie__strick about their mission to colour the capital

Llongyfarchiadau to #CardiffGrad @emmabarnett who has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship this week. 🔴 Woodville or Walkabout? ⚫️ Cathays or Roath? 🔴 Barfly or Buffalo? Here’s what she had to say…
@cheftomkerridge tells Today’s @emmabarnett it’s right the Food Standards Agency looks into the quality of school meals but adds that these lunches are healthier than in previous years. For the first time the Food Standards Agency has been able to go into schools in England to review the nutritional value of school meals as opposed to the hygiene of kitchens. This week we were thrilled to be featured in the mighty @evening.standard as we are now in 40 London neighbourhoods and adding more colouring books each week. To mark this major milestone we had great fun creating this special illustration of #piccadilycircus featuring the #eveningstandard’s very recognisable logo for the paper’s readers, young and older, to colour in. It’s already going well in our house. #summernights #muggynights #screenfreekids #colouryourstreets #colouring
