above the cloud base the sun rises to a new day over the atacama desert – a day of relentless wind and sunshine.
an unforgiving yet incredibly enticing environment that has been our home for the last few weeks while climbing. from our high camp (5550m) on el muerto we took a variation of the normal route to the summit (6510m) which included some interesting climbing and trail breaking. two days later we stood at the top of the world’s highest volcano, ojos del salado (6893m), in the glaring sunshine and looked out over emerald lagoons and snow capped volcanoes, a sight that will linger with me.
flamingoes danced by, vicunas showed up and condors flew high.
laughed alot, learned alot and swam alot in the green hot springs.
sweet dreams are made of this and I am lucky to have the best climbing partner in @lottahintsa 🫶🏼
