Jessica Yellin Instagram – SCHOOL SHOOTER’S PARENT GUILTY OF INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER
A Michigan jury finds Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of a school shooter, guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter. It took just 10 hours for the jury to reach this verdict. It is the first time in US history a parent has been convicted for the shooting crimes of a child. Crumbley could be sentenced to as many as 15 years in prison.
Her son shot and killed 4 and wounded 6 others at Oxford HIgh School in 2021. He had exhibited worrying signs of violent inclinations, but his parents still bought him a gun and failed to tell the school about it while discussing his behavior (He’d drawn a graphic picture of a shooting.)
The prosecution said that his parents could have prevented the shooting by taking “just the smallest steps.” Defense attorneys blamed the shooter’s father, the school, and the shooter for the crime and warned that finding the mother guilty would make parents liable for all manner of actions by their kids.
The shooter’s father, is also charged with involuntary manslaughter and will stand trial separately.
Do you think parents of school shooters should face criminal charges? If so do you think this will help prevent other shootings or do you see it, instead, as purely about punishing the parents? | Posted on 07/Feb/2024 01:36:04
