Joanne Peh Instagram – First time singing in Māori en route to a restaurant with the most stars—literally! 😝 After a scenic 1.5-hour drive from Christchurch, we reached Kura Tāwhiti (Castle Hill) at the foothills of the Southern Alps. Despite the cold, it was such a unique and cozy experience, savoring food cooked in the earth (Hāngī) and making new friends under the Milky Way.
New Zealand’s food identity is deeply rooted in kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and manaakitanga (hospitality), embodying sustainable practices and a profound respect for the land and sea. It’s evident in every detail—from the rituals of welcoming guests to the deep reverence Kiwis have for Mother Nature.
It’s experiences like these that remind me how food, culture, and nature are all beautifully intertwined in Aotearoa. Truly a night to remember, filled with warmth, wonder, and the magic of New Zealand. 🌌✨
