Kerry Ellis’s Wicked Journey:
2006-2014
West End legend Kerry Ellis’s Wicked journey originally began on September 7, 2006 when she opened the Original London West End Company of @wickeduk. Miss Ellis first essayed the role of Elphaba in a temporary Standby capacity, playing the role on numerous occasions in the absence of original star Idina Menzel. After 4 months standing by, Miss Ellis transitioned into playing the role in a full time leading capacity, undertaking a wildly celebrated initial principal contract running from January 1, 2007 through June 7, 2008
After taking over the role as principal, Miss Ellis quickly became a firm fan favorite, and due to ever increasing popularity amongst audiences, and critics alike, was asked to transfer directly to the show’s prestigious Broadway Production where she embarked on a further 7 month run with performances running from June 17, through Nov 9, 2008. With this transfer she notably became the first British actress to play the role in both original flagship resident productions.
On December 1, 2008, after taking Broadway by storm, Miss Ellis made her triumphant return to the West End Company, where she spent a further few months in the role before ultimately playing what was thought to be her final performance on May 9, 2009.
5 years later it was announced that she would once again take up the broom and rejoin the West End production, though this time playing the role for a strictly limited engagement, marking her highly anticipated return to Oz with performances lasting from August 4, through October 25, 2014 only.
Almost two decades after originally joining the show, Miss Ellis’s legacy as Elphaba continues to live on and inspire.
