pressing my ears against locked doors that used to rattle and rage
throwing open dusty curtains
the sun reflecting against mirrors that have met a million me’s
i step over the creaky floorboard I keep meaning to fix
i’ve hated this house more than I’ve loved it
you knock on the front door
when i open it you smile and say “what a lovely home you’ve made”
I let you in
