I wanted to take a little moment to thank the Television Academy for this incredible honor of being recognized.
I moved out to Los Angeles in 1994.
The business was, obviously, very different back then.
It wasn’t easy growing up in LA and pursuing acting (I wrote a book about what this time was like for me).
My first audition was for a Rice-A-Roni commercial, in which I was convinced I bombed and the casting director hated me, but miraculously I booked and it gave me my SAG card.
Every step of the way required a great amount of work, and I cannot tell you how many times it was “me and the other girl” where it didn’t work out in my favor. There were moments that were promised and moments taken, but all and all, and through each trial and tribulation, I was always left with the opportunity to grow and to learn something.
It took me a long time to open up and see that I had any value to contribute, as I was used to mainly focusing on the work to just perform. I knew that I could always put all of myself into my work, and that if I kept digging and digging within, I couldn’t ever be lost within my art form.
But what I have recently, so surprisingly learned, is how much more connected we really are. And the greatest gift I have been given through this business is the “Family” I always wanted and needed.

You have helped me face what I have needed to face and put the challenge towards me-always staying true and humble to who I really am.
You helped me learn to live in gratitude.✨
There is no me without you.
For someone who has lived, and still grapples with “never feeling good enough”, to be acknowledged for the work I have invested means more than anything; it’s all I could have ever hoped for.
