Phaedra Parks Instagram – I am profoundly saddened by the passing of The Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, whose remarkable life and achievements have left an indelible impact on my life, this country, and countless individuals. She was not only a trailblazing #leader and devoted public servant, a tireless advocate for civil rights but also a wife, mother and grandmother.
She broke glass ceilings as one of the first women to graduate from the University of Virginia Law School. As an attorney, Municipal Court Judge, Houston city council member, and U.S. Congresswoman, she championed the rights of the underrepresented, tirelessly advocating for justice, equality, and meaningful change at every level of government.
As the author and lead sponsor of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act and Violence Against Womenās Act, she will always be known as the āVoice of Reason.ā Her groundbreaking work in Congress, including her recognition by Congressional Quarterly as one of the 50 most effective Members of Congress, highlighted her exceptional influence and effectiveness.
Her advice and our many conversations inspired and ignited me to never be silent on matters that affect change. My heart goes out to her family and all who were touched by her extraordinary life. May her memory continue to inspire and guide us all.
