Santhy Balachandran Instagram – BEYOND proud of this superstar. And I don’t use the term lightly. She not only wrote and directed Ennennum, but is also its Producer and Production Designer — to name just a few of the myriad roles she donned through the years she has journeyed with the film.
Shalini began writing Ennennum in 2011 — a remarkably different era, technologically-speaking. However, the themes she explores in the film have a timeless quality that I am sure will resonate beyond advancements we are yet to see.
I auditioned for Ennennum in 2019, and have since watched at close quarters the challenges she faced to mount the project, to execute it under extreme constraints, and then to find festivals which were open to an Indian film that belied typical expectations with regard to content and aesthetics. I’m in awe of her resilience through this difficult journey, and am thrilled that her efforts have been recognised by the International Critics Jury at a prestigious platform like @nifffestival ♾️
