Sarah Ferguson Instagram – Visiting my elephant, Little Red, was such a special treat. Little Red has traveled all the way from India to Rhode Island and so I have brought Little Red, the doll who survived the North Tower on 9/11 and who is the symbol of my charity @sarahs_trust_, from the UK to meet our dear elephant. Little Red represents hope, strength and resilience and so it is only fitting that these two very special reds bear the same name.
The @greatelephantmigration is the adventure of 100 life-size elephants migrating across the USA to support human-wildlife coexistence. As the elephants travel America, they will share their coexistence story from South India’s Nilgiri Hills, where they live alongside humans. Each elephant is hand sculpted by The Coexistence Collective, a community of 200 indigenous artisans from the Bettakurumba, Paniya, Kattunayakan and Soliga communities of India’s Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Tamil Nadu. The collective has spent the past five years sculpting every real-life elephant they live alongside in India. These detailed sculptures are created using Lantana, one of the world’s top invasive weeds. The collective helps remove these harmful plants, which would otherwise push animals out of their forest homes. India’s elephants are showing us an inspiring display of compassionate coexistence with other species wherever they roam. We can only hope to follow their example. Every sculpture sold supports the creators of the herd and conservation NGO’s working in the USA and around the world. 🐘💚
