Today marks 19 years since #TheAdventuresOfSharkboyAndLavagirl premiered in theaters!

Taylor Dooley Instagram - I’ve been taking some time to collect my thoughts, digest exactly how I’m feeling, and find the right words to say amid what has been brought to light in the Quiet On The Set documentary. So much of these things I’ve seen and known for years and others I’m just learning about…either way, I’m devastated by the tragic stories that have come forward from children who should have been safe and protected. I’m also equally horrified by the victim shaming that I’ve watched take place by so many. It takes immense courage to step up and tell your story in the face of a Hollywood machine that demands you to stay silent. It takes bravery to open up to the world to the most intimate of abuses. I know all too well how scary it is to start speaking your truth in a world so quick to judge. I am so proud of all of my friends and people I’ve met in my childhood acting career who have spoken their truths. To those who stand up for abusers and victim blame, please remember we are all people with our own stories and our own life experiences. While your experience with an abuser may have been positive, that is not the reality for everyone. Some saw the masks these people put on and came out unscathed, some saw evils that no child (or adult) should ever experience. There is dark and there is light. Both stories and experiences can be true. No matter what you’ve personally experienced…I think we can all agree that absolutely no one, especially a child, should be abused by an adult in power. No one should have to live with the scars of an adult in the position of power taking advantage of them. We need serious change and accountability in this industry. We must protect our children (and adults) who are lorded over by those who wield their power like a weapon over those who are here to chase a dream. I stand with the survivors. I hear you, I see you, and I understand the reality of abuse more than you know. I’m praying for everyone in this time! Let’s come together & all lift each other up in love 💛
