Recently I forgot to bring my contact lenses to set and my eyes twerked on me the whole night. It’s been a while since I’ve experienced strain-induced headaches.
This made me realize that I’ve been wearing spectacles for 15 years now 😮 I remember in matric (2009) I started suffering from headaches so bad I had to ask my gran to take me to the doctor on a SCHOOL DAY. The migraines, coupled with the now popped blood vessels in my eyes, and fuzzy vision made it an easy diagnosis and off to the optometrist I went! It felt like a death sentence for my inner nerd💔 Class A and B were the top classes and our class was the cooler of the two (fight me if you disagree🤪) and now I was going to bring the group average down with this new look!!!! When I tell you that absolutely NOBODY cared 🙃
Anywho. Cut to varsity… I can’t remember if I lost or broke my spectacles but I remember spending most of my years squinting at the board and POP! POP! POP! More popped blood vessels stained my eyes (hence the brown spots in my eyes). This is also when I developed the habit of looking straight down when walking as it was annoyingly fuzzy otherwise😅 I had so many people complain that I never greeted them when they saw me. Well, first of all: I NEVER SAW YOU!
I eventually got new spectacles (they were free as i got them at a government hospital). Those held me over till around 2015 when I could afford to buy “funkier” frames and that’s when I started wearing lenses. Do you know how hard it is to be without sight on set? You don’t realize how much you rely on lip reading when talking to people until you can’t read their lips and you need the director to speak louder because you can’t see🤣
I’ve had the most fun the last couple of years. I think I definitely have a shape that I like but @eyelegance_optometrists (frames 1-6) has encouraged me to experiment more with different frame types. Choosing the different colors to tint my spectacles has been my favorite: from black to brown to green, I’ve done it all!
