António Guterres Instagram - This week, I urged the Security Council to press to avert a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and I reiterated my appeal for a humanitarian ceasefire to be declared.

Regrettably, the Security Council failed to do it.

But that does not make it less necessary.

I promise: I will not give up.
António Guterres Instagram - People in Gaza are dying not only from bombs and bullets, but from lack of food & clean water, and hospitals without power & medicine.

This must stop.

I will not relent in my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the immediate & unconditional release of all hostages.
António Guterres Instagram - I condemn Israel’s actions which killed scores of innocent civilians who were only seeking shelter from this deadly conflict.

There is no safe place in Gaza.

This horror must stop.
António Guterres Instagram - The refusal to accept the two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians, and the denial of the right to statehood for the Palestinian people, are unacceptable.

This would indefinitely prolong a conflict that has become a major threat to global peace and security; exacerbate polarization; and embolden extremists everywhere.

The right of the Palestinian people to build their own state must be recognized by all.
António Guterres Instagram - Four out of five of the hungriest people anywhere in the world are in Gaza.

As the conflict intensifies and the horror grows, we will continue to do our part.

We will not give up.
António Guterres Instagram - The Security Council just approved a long-awaited resolution on Gaza, demanding an immediate ceasefire, and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.

This resolution must be implemented. Failure would be unforgivable.
António Guterres Instagram - I wrote to the Security Council invoking Article 99 because of the high risk of the total collapse of the humanitarian support system in Gaza, with devastating consequences.

There is clearly, in my view, a serious risk of aggravating existing threats to the maintenance of international peace and security.

The @unitednations is totally committed to stay and deliver for the people of Gaza, but under current conditions on the ground, the fulfilment of our humanitarian mandate has become impossible. Even if sufficient supplies were permitted into Gaza, intense bombardment and hostilities, and Israeli restrictions on movement, fuel shortages, and interrupted communications, make it impossible for UN agencies and their partners to reach most people in need.

I again and unreservedly condemn the terror attacks by Hamas, and I am appalled by the reports of sexual violence. At the same time, the brutality perpetrated by Hamas can never justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.

International humanitarian law cannot be applied selectively. It is binding on all parties equally at all times, and the obligation to observe it does not depend on reciprocity.

The people of Gaza are looking into the abyss.

I urge the Security Council to spare no effort to push for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, for the protection of civilians and the urgent delivery of lifesaving aid.

António Guterres Instagram - I condemn Thursday’s incident in northern Gaza in which more than 100 people were reportedly killed or injured while seeking life-saving aid.

The desperate civilians in Gaza need urgent help, including those in the north where the @unitednations has not been able to deliver aid in more than a week.

The tragic human toll of the conflict in Gaza, in which more than 30,000 people have now reportedly been killed and over 70,000 injured, is appalling.

I reiterate my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages, and call for urgent steps so that critical humanitarian aid can get into and across Gaza to all those in need.
António Guterres Instagram - As hostilities in Gaza intensify, I remain gravely concerned about further spillover of this conflict, which could have devastating consequences for the entire region.

I reiterate my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and release of all hostages.
António Guterres Instagram - From Rafah, I have a message to Palestinians in Gaza:

You are not alone.

People around the world are outraged by the horrors we are all witnessing in real time. I carry the voices of the vast majority of the world who have seen enough. Who have had enough. And who still believe that human dignity and decency must define us as a global community.

It’s our only hope.

It’s time to truly flood Gaza with life-saving aid. The choice is clear: either surge or starvation. Let’s choose the side of help – the side of hope – and the right side of history.

I will not give up.
And all of us must not give up in doing all we can for our common humanity to prevail in Gaza and around the world.

António Guterres Instagram - The devastating Israeli airstrikes that killed World Central Kitchen personnel yesterday bring the number of aid workers killed in this conflict to 196 – including more than 175 members of our own @unitednations staff.

This is unconscionable.

It demonstrates yet again the urgent need for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and the expansion of humanitarian aid into Gaza – as the Security Council demanded in its resolution last week.

The resolution must be implemented without delay.
António Guterres Instagram - To be able to deliver effective humanitarian aid in Gaza:

we need safety,

we need equipment,

we need more crossing points,

we need access to the north.

I call for rapid, safe, unhindered, expanded & sustained humanitarian access throughout Gaza.
António Guterres Instagram - I strongly condemn the serious escalation represented by the large-scale attack launched on Israel by the Islamic Republic of Iran this evening. I call for an immediate cessation of these hostilities.

I am deeply alarmed about the very real danger of a devastating region-wide escalation. I urge all to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East.

I have repeatedly stressed that neither the region nor the world can afford another war.
António Guterres Instagram - Refugee rights are human rights.

We must continue to support refugees, protect their rights and build a better future for everyone who has been #ForcedToFlee.
António Guterres Instagram - The war in Gaza is an open wound that threatens to infect the entire region.

In its speed and scale, it is the deadliest conflict in my time as Secretary-General – for civilians, aid workers, journalists, and our own @unitednations colleagues.

Of course, nothing can justify the abhorrent 7 October terror attacks by Hamas. And nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.

It’s high time for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and unimpeded access for humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza.

The only permanent way to end the cycle of violence and instability is through a two-state solution, Israel and Palestine living side-by-side in peace and security, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.
António Guterres Instagram - The escalation of military activity in and around Rafah by the Israeli Defense Forces is further impeding humanitarian access & worsening an already dire situation.

At the same time, Hamas goes on firing rockets indiscriminately.

Civilians must be respected and protected at all times, in Rafah and elsewhere in Gaza.

I reiterate my appeal for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and for the release of all hostages.

I call for the Rafah crossing to be re-opened immediately and for the UN to have unimpeded humanitarian access throughout Gaza.
António Guterres Instagram - Famine is imminent in the northern part of Gaza, according to the world’s leading experts on food insecurity.

1.1 million people in Gaza are facing catastrophic hunger - the highest number ever recorded – anywhere, anytime.

This is an entirely manmade disaster.

And it can - and must - be halted.

I call on the Israeli authorities to ensure complete and unfettered access for humanitarian goods throughout Gaza and for the international community to fully support our humanitarian efforts.

We need an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. Now.

We must act now to prevent the unthinkable, the unacceptable and the unjustifiable.
António Guterres Instagram - There is so much anger and hate and noise in our world today.

Every day and at every turn, it seems – it’s war.

Around the globe and across the range of issues, peace is the missing piece.

Yet, people want peace and security.

They want peace and dignity.

Frankly, they want peace and quiet.

The pursuit of peace is the most essential of all human endeavours.

Peace is more than a noble vision.

Peace is a rallying cry. It is a call to action.

And I will never give up fighting for peace.

António Guterres Instagram - Disarmament and non-proliferation are critical not only to a peaceful future, but to our very existence.

This International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness comes at a perilous moment, marked by rising levels of military spending, deepening geopolitical tensions and growing violent conflicts across the globe.

Global leaders must invest in peace by strengthening the systems and tools that prevent the proliferation and use of deadly weapons, and by developing disarmament solutions.

We must speak with one loud, clear voice.

It’s time to stop the madness.

We need disarmament now.
António Guterres Instagram - I condemn in the strongest terms the overnight large-scale missile and drone attack by Russia on Ukrainian cities and towns across the country.

Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law, are unacceptable and must end immediately.
António Guterres Instagram - If countries fulfilled their obligations under the @unitednations Charter and international law, every person on earth would live in peace and dignity.

The problem is that many governments are ignoring these commitments - and millions of civilians are paying a terrible price.

There is always an opportunity to create a more inclusive, comprehensive, and effective global order that works for everyone based on the UN Charter and international law.

We must work for solutions rooted in justice, with renewed urgency and solidarity.

António Guterres Instagram - The humanitarian aid operation in Gaza is now on life support. It is barely functioning.

Humanitarians are working under unimaginable conditions – including live fire, multiple physical obstacles and Israeli restrictions, as well as the breakdown of public order.

Rafah is at the core of the entire humanitarian aid operation in Gaza.

An all-out offensive on the city would be devastating for 1.5 million Palestinian civilians who are already on the edge of survival.
António Guterres Instagram - We have witnessed too much suffering and destruction in Gaza.

It is time to stop.

I welcome @potus Biden’s initiative and I encourage all parties to seize this opportunity for a ceasefire, the release of all hostages, guaranteed unhindered humanitarian access and ultimately a durable peace in the Middle East.

The only permanent way to end the cycle of violence and instability is through a two-state solution, Israel and Palestine living side-by-side in peace and security, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.

In its speed and scale, it is the deadliest conflict in my time as Secretary-General – for civilians, aid workers, journalists, and our own @unitednations colleagues.

António Guterres - 13.2K Likes - There is so much anger and hate and noise in our world today.

Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law, are unacceptable and must end immediately.

António Guterres - 11.8K Likes - If countries fulfilled their obligations under the @unitednations Charter and international law, every person on earth would live in peace and dignity.

It is time to stop.

I welcome @potus Biden’s initiative and I encourage all parties to seize this opportunity for a ceasefire, the release of all hostages, guaranteed unhindered humanitarian access and ultimately a durable peace in the Middle East.
