Caption : For me, it’s really, really simple. You don’t get different results by trying the same thing over and over again. The Voice is our opportunity to do things differently. To hear from the people who know best and to simply listen. It’s not a big ask. But it’s a big first step to a better future. That’s why I voted yes.Likes : 24674

Caption : Bit of a favour to ask. If you know a year 12 student trying to decide what to do next year, send them this. It might just help them make up their mind. We’re going to give anyone starting study to become a secondary teacher a scholarship to match the cost of their degree. It’ll be available for students starting study in 2024 and 2025 who go on to teach at a Victorian government secondary school.Likes : 16933

Caption : If you asked me to name the best days of my life – this one is right up there. In that moment, absolutely everything changes. And nothing really can prepare you for it. First comes the rush of love, the adrenaline. And then the sleepless nights – and frankly, a bit of anxiety. That’s why we’re helping set up new dad groups. They’ll be places for new dads to get together, share their experiences, and help each other out. Just like mums groups, they’ll focus on things like bonding, self-care, and gender equality in parenting too. Some groups already exist, and we’re helping make sure there are groups for dads across the state. Applications for grants to start a group open tomorrow. In the meantime – happy fathers day.Likes : 10971

Caption : Teachers change lives. Simple as that. And as we get closer to opening 100 new schools by 2026, we need more. That’s why anyone starting study to become a secondary teacher will be able to get a scholarship to match the cost of their degree. It’ll be available for students starting study in 2024 and 2025 who go on to teach at a Victorian government secondary school. It means one less barrier for Victorians thinking of a career in teaching. And more great teachers for the education state.Likes : 8062

Caption : Done. We’ve changed the rules so you can build a granny flat without a permit. Small second homes in the backyard are getting more and more popular. But getting plans approved usually gets in the way – and really slows down the process. So we’ve made it easier. If the second dwelling is less than 60 square metres, it won’t require a permit. It means extra space as your family grows, or somewhere to stay when the kids come to visit for the weekend.Likes : 5638

It’s the BBC Earth Experience – and Melbourne will be just the second city in the world to see it. The experience takes you on 360-degree journey around the world, using footage from the BBC, all narrated by David Attenborough. It kicks off at the Melbourne Convention Centre on 27 October. And tell your friends in Sydney – because the only place you’ll see it in Australia is right here.Likes : 5037

Caption : The word legend is used a lot. But nobody deserves it quite like Ron Barassi. He didn’t just play the game – he reshaped it. And how fitting that last night’s game was a cliffhanger between the Dees and the Blues. The government will offer Ron’s family a state funeral to remember him – and I hope they accept. Caption : New station, and a new name. Say hello to Glen Huntly Station. It’s been completely rebuilt as part of works to remove two level crossings. And while we were at it, we fixed up one of Melbourne’s oldest spelling mistakes. The station mysteriously lost its space and became known as Glenhuntly in the 1930s. But now the space is back, and the station is looking better than ever. 72 level crossings gone, and one typo corrected.Likes : 3777

Caption : Whatever way you look at it, moving house is expensive. Whether you hire movers or do it yourself – it’s easy to end up out of pocket. But there’s one thing we can do to make this easier. Under our new Housing Statement, we’ll start portable rental bonds – so that they can be carried from one property over to a new one. It’ll ease financial burdens – because renters won’t have to fork out a big payment every time they move. And it’ll streamline the admin process for real estate agents and property managers who handle several rentals at a time. Most importantly – it’ll create a more efficient rental market in Victoria. And that’s good news for renters and landlords. For more info on how we’re helping renters in our new Housing Statement, head to https://www.vic.gov.au/protecting-renters-rightsLikes : 3081

Caption : Twenty years ago, Michael Long set off on his first historic walk to Canberra. He’d had enough of the injustice that First Nations people faced. And he wanted change. He walked almost one million steps before he had a meeting with the Prime Minister. And with each one of those steps – he gained more and more supporters across the nation. Every year since, he’s relived that journey – walking with hundreds of Victorians as part of the Dreamtime at the ‘G match. And now, he needs us more than ever. He’s walking to Canberra again, in support of the Voice to Parliament. And today he kicked off that journey from Melbourne. But this time it’s not just the support of the Government he needs. It’s all of ours. As a country, we’ve spent too long telling Aboriginal Australians what’s best for them – instead of listening to what’s needed. It hasn’t worked. Now we’ve got a chance to listen, and make a difference. As Michael makes his journey, we’ll make ours too. Right beside him.Likes : 2570

The Ballarat Foto Biennale kicks off this weekend, and as part of it a huge golden monkey has been installed on a building on Lydiard Street. The monkey is the work of Melbourne artist Lisa Roet. You might remember it from when it was installed on the side of Melbourne Town Hall in 2014. Since then, it has travelled the world, visiting Hong Kong, Singapore and Edinburgh. And now it’s back home in Victoria as part of the Foto Biennale.Likes : 2559

Caption : A couple of years ago, we finished rebuilding 200 social and affordable homes in Ascot Vale. 80 homes had originally been built here in the 1940s – and 60 years later, they weren’t what they used to be. We more than doubled what was there – and created energy efficient, accessible, well-ventilated homes. And residents who lived there once before – like Omar and Abobeker – are back in the place they call home. Now we’re doing it again. We’re launching Australia’s biggest ever urban renewal project – and retiring and redeveloping all of Melbourne’s 44 ageing high-rise public housing estates by 2051. Because simply put, these buildings just aren’t up to scratch anymore. The cost of maintenance alone is huge, and a simple retrofit wouldn’t cut it. Redeveloping these towers will mean every exisiting household, plus more, will move into a new home that meets every modern building standard. And more Victorians will have a roof over their head – in high quality homes that they deserve.Likes : 2442

Caption : Not every child learns in the same way, or at the same pace. That’s why we started the tutors in schools program. More than 100,000 students have had help from a tutor so far. And now we’re extending it to 2025. It means students can get a helping hand, without the need to pay for expensive after-school sessions. Because every child, no matter their background, deserves the very best education.Likes : 2223
