Annie Lennox Instagram – Dear Friends,
As we witness the abhorrent genocide in Gaza taking place in front of our eyes, with no preventative action from world leaders, I’m highly aware that many more wars rage around the globe, always with women and girls disproportionately affected.
Over the past three years, Afghan women have been consistently stripped of their fundamental human rights. This past week, the Taliban issued a new series of horrifying laws, restricting women’s participation in public life even more.
Among many others, the new decrees include:
•Women are banned from speaking out loud in public.
•They must keep their faces (including their eyes) and bodies covered with thick material in public at all times.
•Women cannot look at men unless related by blood or marriage.
•Women should not be heard singing or reading aloud, even in their own homes.
These laws are part of an extreme systematic and structural erasure of women.
It is repression.
It is dehumanisation.
It is gender apartheid.
Afghan women are forced to live in their country like shadows. Yet, they continue to resist and refuse to be silenced.
Our mission at @thecirclengo remains clear and constant – we stand in solidarity and action in support of their fight for freedom, equality and the fundamental right to LIVE.
Please consider joining us @thecirclengo if you haven’t already and help us support the rights of women and girls around the globe. | Posted on 28/Aug/2024 22:26:20
