Arsema Thomas Instagram – I remember when I received the script last year and Mali was described as a “beautiful, chocolate-skinned woman,” and tears started to form.
Women who look like me and her never get our time to shine, never get to be happy or to be loved. From the surface of her beautiful brown skin to the depths of her intelligence, Mali represents all of us who have been simplified and pushed into the shadows of our own stories.
Thank you @chipsheridan for letting me grow with Mali, for letting her be mine, for truly being vulnerable enough to show true love in front of a massive audience. @natethedirector you led us through uncharted territory, with confidence and grace, and I am humbled to lead your directorial debut. I am indebted to you both for bringing life to a new standard for Black men.
