To lock eyes with a leopard is always a thrill. Photographing these elusive big cats in Kenya’s vast landscapes feels like a great privilege but also a chance to share their beauty, elegance, and mystery with others. They may be remarkably resilient and capable of carving out an existence in an array of environments—from sprawling savannas to urban fringes—but leopards worldwide have not been able to evade the relentless pressures of habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. Populations have declined by more than 30% over the past two decades, and leopards have vanished from at least 40% of their historic range in Africa. Bringing their plight a little closer to the world’s attention is an important part of inspiring action for their conservation. | Posted on 11/Sep/2024 00:56:27
