Having my own money meant independence, something I desperately wanted. But…I was still too young to get a job at the local ice cream shop, so what was I going to do?
A tall and gangly pre-teen, I connected with a story in Teen magazine about a girl who was mocked in school for her lanky frame who went on to become a successful model.
Inspiration struck and I pulled out the yellow pages, scouring the listings for local modeling agencies, then calling them one by one.
They all turned me down. Determined. I kept searching until I finally found a boutique agency willing to take a chance on me. It was my first lesson in not taking “no” for an answer.
That tenacity didn’t just boost my confidence; it boosted my bank balance! In the span of two years, I found myself featured everywhere from TV to buses to towering billboards.
Remember: Every rejection is just a step closer to the right ‘yes’.
