My paternal grandparents दादी-दादा were settled in #jalandhar once on a trip there I overheard some relative telling my Dadi something on the lines of: ਉਹ ਲਗਭਗ ਬਦਸੂਰਤ ਹੈI Uha lagabhaga badasūrata hai.. She is almost u#ly … But my Dadi told that lady “Don’t hate what you don’t understand.”…. She hugged me later and gave me a hot roti with Ghee-sugar and told me Lōkāṁ dī gala nā suṇō uha bēsamajha hana, ( don’t listen to people who are ignorant) but I still couldn’t understand the snide remarks as a child. “Mixed breed hound” “Afghan hound” was used often in school and even when I started modelling at the age of 15. Why were they so full of scornful sarcasm towards me …. because when I looked at my parents I saw nothing wrong between them, all I saw was love. There were also people who applauded and praised the union of my parents but it was the hurt from the hatred which remained deeply rooted within me. As I grew that very hurt also turned into the motivating factor to always be the best version of my self because I was representing love which was achieved despite many odds, turmoil and heartache.
