Join us for the launch of “The Garden that Rita Grew”on August 7th @citywinerynyc. The first installation, subtitled “The Garden that Rita Grew: My Grandma Rita”, will look at Rita Marley from the lens of her eldest granddaughter @iamdonisha, highlighting histories and moments of impact that have shaped the legacy of the Marley family beyond the celebrity. This is a preview of a larger exhibition and will feature a stunning collection of photographs and artwork curated by Donisha Prendergast, celebrating Rita Marley’s strength, resilience, and creativity.
At 7pm, the stage will light up with a special performance by @iamsharonmarley and the Elements band to take audiences on a journey with stories from her childhood, touring years with Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers and her journey to preserve her mother’s work.
The goal of this exhibit is to raise visibility and financial support for the Rita Marley Girls Center in Trench Town, Jamaica. The vision is to preserve the footprint of Rita Marley in the community she grew up in, by promoting community development and access to continued education.
