2013 I was asked by my dear friend the genius @alimahdaviparis 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 to make the beautiful French Pop star @elodiefrege 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 into Marilyn Monroe for the video to her song “Comment t’appelles-tu ce matin”. Ali was directing a very tight production with about 15 actors and a full shot list for the one day shoot in Paris. Ali told me that we only had 2 hours to do the hair and makeup for the transformation. To be as prepared as possible, I drew a portrait of Marilyn on tracing paper over a photo copy of Elodie’s face before the shoot, to work out exactly what needed to be redrawn and to what extent. The Hair stylist and myself completed the transformation in the time given. 😅 Being terrible at French I didn’t realise exactly what the shooting entailed- Elodie was enacting amorous embraces with different actors. At the time I didn’t know about using Pritt stick on brows and did the old fashioned, spirit gum and wax technique, the eyebrows survived intact for about 4 of the encounters. But after several more robust caresses the brows began to lift off and smear, it was terrible watching the eyebrows get trashed and having no time to really be able to fix them properly. I remember that Ali was very insistent about me using a lipstick made for porn stars that was REALLY smudgeproof, but I didn’t think to ask if the rest of the makeup should be as well.
The video is amazing! Elodie was fantastic to work with and everything went really well on the shoot, but I still have flashbacks of watching those eyebrows get trashed and having 30 seconds between takes to try to do something to fix them, the porn star lipstick didn’t survive either.😉😉
