Vietnamlı Zen Ustası ve barış aktivisti Thich Nhat Hanh’ın bu şiirini bugünlerde bir kere daha, yine paylaşmak geldi içimden… Bu postu evire çevire paylaşıyorum, çünkü Thay’ın sözlerini duymaya, gerçekten duymaya, bir kere daha duymaya, ve HATIRLAMAYA o kadar ihtiyacımız var ki bugünlerde…
Martin Luther King tarafından Nobel Barış Ödülü’ne de aday gösterilen ve 100’den fazla kitabı olan Vietnam’lı Zen Ustası Thich Nhat Hanh kurduğu organizasyonla, tamamen tarafsız olarak Vietnam savaşı sırasında zarar görenlere yardım etmek için çalışırken her iki taraf tarafından da düşman ilan edilmiş ve ülkesinden ayrılmak zorunda kalmış. Bu şiiri savaş mağdurlarına yardım etmeye çalışırken arkadaşlarının karşılaştıklarına içsel yanıtı olarak yazmış… Karşısında durduğumuz şeyin ne olduğunu karıştırıp da, biz de onun tuzağına düşmeyelim, aslında neyle mücadele ettiğimizi karıştırmayalım diye… Yukarıdaki naçizane çevirim, aşağıda İngilizcesi…
Promise me,
promise me this day,

while the sun is overhead
exactly at the zenith,

Even as they
strike you down
with a mountain of hatred and violence;
even as they step on you and crush you
like a worm,
even as they dismember and disembowel you,
