Jane Goodall Instagram – Dr. Jane Goodall is so well known for living among wild chimpanzees — in their natural habitat, in Tanzania’s Gombe National Park 🌳🐵
And here at the Jane Goodall Institute, we are intentionally cautious about how we use archival photos of Jane with chimpanzees. If you’ve followed us for awhile, you may have noticed our disclaimer about human and wildlife interaction on our posts! Here’s why we’re very mindful:
💚 We’ve since learned a lot more about how to best interact with chimpanzees and other wildlife. A major threat to chimpanzees is disease, which can pass easily from humans to chimps.
💚 Chimpanzees are wild animals that must not be kept as pets or for entertainment. Images that suggest otherwise drive demand for the illegal wildlife trade, which also poses a significant threat to chimpanzees and other great apes.
Since making her groundbreaking chimpanzee observations, Jane has advocated tirelessly on behalf of chimpanzees and other species, their right to be protected in their natural habitat, and their compassionate, species-appropriate care in captive settings. Her accomplishments include being a significant force in the efforts to list chimpanzees under the Endangered Species Act in the early 1990s, expanding those protections in 2013, and advocating for the near-total ban on biomedical research on chimpanzees in 2015 🫶

And now, the disclaimer! *The Jane Goodall Institute does not endorse handling or close proximity to wildlife. This represents a sanctuary context with trained professionals.*
