a perfect day to
read any book i want
i wipe sugar dust from your chin and lick my thumb
you have the side with more marzipan but i love you so much i won’t say a word
i want a bottle of wine for me and one for a friend
drunk slowly in the summer night
the funk and ferment warming our bellies and opening our chests to spill our secrets onto the checked tablecloth
onto the pavement
the aroma of our laughter floats up into the trees
out into the sky
i want to see the sun set early while i lament its descent
but i’ll have a cold dungeon where i can’t stop kissing you and i feel beautiful in the candlelight
i want laughter on the beach in the still heat of a New Jersey summer
then crab legs and spaghetti with table chianti
no matter how hard we try there is always sand in the bed
i want to tear my heart open doing what i love
