Peppermint Instagram – This week has been simultaneously one of the most challenging and rewarding i’ve had. Artistically, creatively and personally.
The catalyst for that is Cecilia Gentili, and her brilliant show red ink. Cecilia let the type of life and did the type of things that in several years people will be talking about her the way they talk about Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera I believe. The show is personal and intimate, and wacky and Wild, extreme, hilarious and very, very risque. But most of all it’s just real. And I connect with and resonate with this material in a way that I’ve not had the opportunity to in the past. I love all types of art and live performance. But I most turned on by the opportunity to perform art as activism. And that’s exactly what this is. I am so proud and also extremely nervous each night to present this material to the audience because there’s a certain rawness that I’m not used to sharing with an audience. And perhaps this is why I feel like I’m growing every single night when I perform this material that’s been gifted to me. ( thanks to @breakingthebinarytheater )
I’ve been posting a lot about it… daily. That’s because I’m not sure when the next time is I’ll be able to perform something like this and each night is different, that’s the beauty of live theater..
