Rhea Norwood Instagram – An ode to Sally B
Last night I finished my run as Sally B in Cabaret. It’s very hard to process the end of such a huge ‘ultimate’ goal. I can’t remember a time in my life where I’ve not wanted to be performing in the west end. To make my theatre debut in this production is beyond special. I first encountered Cabaret watching the film when I was 16 in college and immediately felt represented in Sally in a way I’d never fully felt before. She so clearly had a complicated relationship with herself but also such a strong desire for self expression- much like my 16 year old self. She embodied so many different paradoxes- sexy and ugly, vulnerable and yet so performed, funny and heartbreaking, good and bad, selfish and kind- a real life woman. And her songs embodied this too. It’s been the greatest privilege to have delved into this character and tell her story each night and I’m so grateful to everyone at Cabaret for honouring my version of her. I’ve been able to truly lean into parts of myself both on and off stage, parts of myself that previously haven’t been acknowledged, let alone celebrated.
