Yasmine Al Massri Instagram – So cool to see “the strangers case” win the audience award @deauvilleus .. festivals are important platforms for indie films and conversations about social justice and what it is that connects the human canva beyond borders and checkpoints.. this movie tells the story of two Syrian families trying to cross the ocean to safety and having to survive, police , smugglers and the ocean.. why this story stands out and should be in every movie theatre ? It brings that very important subject to the screen in a beautifully produced way, great picture, twists, shifting perspectives, and characters points of views.. it’s the first time a story about Syrian refugees gets to be told with production value that feels like a big Hollywood picture.. AND the people who made that movie and who you will not see in festivals or the press.. are reel people.. Syrian refugees who experienced the trauma that was acted in some scenes for reel.. artists and human rights advocates who can no longer go back to Syria bc they were supportive of a dream of freedom for there people.. we had two huge crews in jordan and turkey who worked long hours to make this movie happen.. kids.. elders.. translators.. authenticity coaches.. dialect coaches.. safety guards.. stunts experts.. diving coaches.. we worked in the heat and in water.. but all of it was nothing to be compared with what the Syrian people went through.. none of it was an excuse to not show up for the job.. this movie deserves to be seen bc the Syrian people are still fighting for there freedom, dignity and right to be safe as refugees outside of there land.. this movie deserves to be seen bc many refugees around the world are facing terrible discrimination and racism.. they are being shot at while in a boat in the middle of the ocean.. also refugees are facing genocide like my people in Gaza.. the world refugee demography is growing.. there could never be enough movies about them.. and definitely more to do to grow our empathy toward them.. a movie can open a heart and an eye.. this movie does it.. #thestrangerscasemovie will hopefully be in a theatre near you soon #stories #change the #world #one #movie at a #time 🎥…. | Posted on 16/Sep/2024 11:02:57
