Caption : With the election just one week away, I was concerned that the race for Miami-Dade Democratic Party Chair remained uncontested. State Senator Shevrin Jones is a good man and a more than capable candidate, but competition is good for the consumer. It is, in fact, essential for democracy: no options, no election. Voters need a robust marketplace of ideas. We deserve an opportunity to hear our candidates propose their plans and lay out of a vision for the future. @MiamiDadeDems are a shambles. We’ve been hijacked by a consultant cartel that does not care about getting Democrats elected; they only care about lining their pockets. And they’ve run the Party right into the ground — for profit. They exploit our bank accounts to pass-through unlimited contributions to their candidates and abuse our hard-working volunteers for the sole benefit of their monopoly. They have perverted the very essence of what it means to be a Democrat. We are trying to save our Party; they are trying to preserve their business model. Until we acknowledge, confront, and remedy the reality of the unethical grifters in our midst, we will continue to lose elections. And we must stop gaslighting ourselves about our prospects in this cycle. It further harms the credibility of an already debilitated brand and hampers any hope we have to move forward, fundraise, recruit candidates, run competent campaigns, and set a longterm course for success. My chances of winning would be greater with anonymous ballots. I understand it’ll be difficult for many people to vote for me, even if they want to, due to the pressure and intimidation tactics you’ll be subjected to by the consultant cartel that demands the status quo because their livelihood depends on it. (Also #BecauseMiami.) But this important process should not be a coronation; it should at least be a conversation. I often say Democrats in Florida never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Let’s not miss this opportunity. I have some ideas; I know @ShevrinJones does. Let’s talk about them. @nikkifriedflLikes : 3912

Thank you Commissioners Damian Pardo and Miguel Gabela for standing up to her corruption. Minutes after this embarrassing scene, commissioners voted 4-1 to immediately remove her from her position. Caption : Who’s at fault in this situation? ⬇️ There are two major factors to why this keeps happening. 1. The duration of the build-out period granted by landlords 2. The City of Miami’s permitting process dragging on indefinitely. Landlords can offer a rent-free period to allow tenants to complete their build-outs and obtain necessary permits. But in the City of Miami, six months is nothing. People are now waiting up to two years due to the new regulations and new permitting processes implemented by DERM. Landlords, aware of these constraints, should logically extend the rent-free period, right? I rarely see that happening. Moreover, the City of Miami is demonstrating its lack of concern for restaurateurs by changing grease trap regulations and mandating that every restaurant update their grease traps simultaneously, under threat of closure. Meanwhile, they can’t keep up with new approval requests. You’d think they would put a system in place to streamline this process. Nope. The permitting process is a mess, causing significant delays and financial strain on new businesses. Additionally, reaching the final inspection is like a never-ending ordeal. Every step of the process needs to be inspected, and the city is slow to show up while constantly changing codes. You may complete a step, but by the time they inspect, a new code could be in place, forcing you to redo the work. Their lack of urgency further shows how little they care about the well-being of businesses. These factors combined create the perfect storm, leading to lost cash and delayed openings, or never opening at all. So, who is at fault here? The landlord or the city? Should landlords provide more time to these restaurants to navigate the permitting hell we’re experiencing, or should the City of Miami take responsibility and streamline this permitting process? Are landlords setting short time periods, knowing the permitting process is slow, to get free money and a freshly built-out space? Does the City of Miami genuinely care about restaurateurs, or are they benefiting from this situation? Who do you think is at fault? Let me know in the comments. ⬇️Likes : 922

Caption : Big shout out to @billycorben , for having me on his podcast! We had an insightful conversation about the ongoing Restaurant Armageddon in Miami. The prediction was spot on—145 closures in the Miami core, not even counting cities like Doral, Kendall, and Hialeah. Since recording, the number of closures has only increased. Demand still outweighs inventory, with ten new ventures ready to take over each closed space. This is why you aren’t seeing vacant restaurants everywhere you look. I’m grateful for the community’s support amidst the pushback I’ve been receiving from landlords and developers who do not want the truth of this narrative out there. At the end of the day, being honest with my clients and the community to further support their success is what I care about most. Follow along in my stories for daily updates on the latest restaurant closures and openings. Stay tuned for more insights on the truth behind Restaurant Armageddon. 🔥Likes : 639

Caption : “These motherf*ckers are thugs in suits!” Commissioner “Pay 2 Play” Keon Hardemon gave $40 million to an unqualified contractor for “illegal…subpar quality” construction — and $14 million allegedly went missing! Then they targeted the whistleblower who was brave enough to call him out for it… #BecauseMiami Miami is an incestuous cesspool of corruption. Like New York’s notorious “Five Families” of organized crime, we have our own syndicate of political dynasties that have been plaguing — and preying on — our community for generations. Along with the Suarezes, Carollos, Diaz de la Portillas, Regalados, and Gimenezes, the HMF (Hardemon Mafia Family) is among the worst of the worst. Miami-Dade Commissioner Keon Hardemon was raised as a Manchurian Candidate to plant in our local government so his family can exploit taxpayers and direct public money to themselves and their cronies. Keon’s uncle Billy was arrested 3 times, charged with 70 alleged crimes, and accused of taking $50,000 in bribes. Uncle Roy has 8 arrests, totaling 14 criminal charges. Miami Commissioner Christine King serves as both consigliere and puppet, helping to keep the HMF’s hand in the City of Miami piggybank while Keon now skims the county till. In a new true crime docuseries, we’ll follow the money and explore HMF hustles: from their $31 million Magic City Innovation District slush fund, gentrifying Miami’s historically Black neighborhoods, to the MIA airport ATM, to millions in no-bid grants funneled to B.S. charities run by the family, to the CRA, where community redevelopment money earmarked for underprivileged areas has been pocketed by insiders.Likes : 3

Caption : Accused sex pest Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner is pissed that WSVN helped arrest a known sex offender who brutally raped a rollerblader on the Beachwalk #BecauseMiami Meiner now wants to prosecute cops for sharing information with the press that helped catch a man who allegedly committed a violent sexual assault in Miami Beach between 23rd and 24th streets on July 16. A video obtained by Miami’s Channel 7 news station shows a woman rollerblading when a male approaches her from behind, grabs, chokes, and throws her to the ground — then pulls her into the bushes, where she says he sexually assaulted her. The arrest warrant even credits the media with helping police to identify the suspect: “Chief Luke Plesa, of the Sunny Isles Police Department, saw the news coverage of the incident and recognized the subject from recent police contact.” Keith Hill Jr., a previously convicted sex offender from Illinois, was arrested by police in Hollywood, Florida and charged with sexual battery, giving a false ID to authorities, and failing to register as a sex offender. Sources say there is an active Internal Affairs investigation by @miamibeachpd to identify and punish whoever helped catch this rapist by sharing information with the press. @stevenmeiner resigned earlier this month from his 17-year job as an attorney at the SEC amidst an HR probe into sexual harassment claims by three women in the Miami office. He took a new job with a private company owned by the former CEO of a company who recently got a contract with the City of Miami Beach. 🎥 @sheldonfoxreporterLikes : 3

Then in February, “the Herald reported that the SEC’s Office of Human Resources in Washington, D.C., had begun contacting current and former SEC employees” about the allegations. A former SEC intern said “Meiner had once tried to kiss her in 2012.” An SEC attorney “reported to her superiors in 2016 that Meiner told her…that he wanted to get a second apartment to carry on an affair with her.” “A second former intern told the Herald that during and after her internship, Meiner frequently asked her out for drinks and dinner and told her in text messages that she was ‘beautiful and smart.’ She said that she sent Meiner ‘several very direct texts reminding him he had a wife and kids and reminding him I was in a very serious relationship’ and that her then-boyfriend became so frustrated with Meiner’s advances that he texted Meiner himself to tell him to stop.” Meiner announced he has a new job as “senior management executive” at The Farkas Group Inc., the “family office” of businessman Michael D. Farkas that “manages a diverse investment portfolio.” And because Miami is an incestuous cesspool of corruption: Farkas is also the founder and former CEO of Blink Charging, an electric vehicle charging company. Acevedo was fired in 2021 — less than seven months after he was hired — after he called out the three corrupt commissioners for alleged illegal and unethical activity, claiming they tried to “weaponize” the police department and other city agencies against their enemies. The Miami Herald reports: In his civil complaint, first filed in January 2022, Acevedo accused them of violating his First Amendment rights and illegally retaliating against him for “speaking out against corruption and abuse of power by the City of Miami Commission.” He has alleged that his firing was retribution for trying to maintain his independence as police chief. @iamchristinekingLikes : 3

Caption : #BREAKING (UPDATED): Sergio Pino, “one of the largest Hispanic Homebuilders in the nation,” dead of “apparent suicide” during FBI and SWAT raid today at his Cocoplum Miami mansion during investigation into his allegedly poisoning — and hiring men to threaten — his estranged wife Pino, in the middle of a contentious divorce with wife Tatiana Pino, had been accused of hiring four men, who have been arrested, to “assault” and “threaten” her and her sister. Late last month, the FBI raided Pino’s Coral Gables home and office. According to the Miami Herald, “a rented Home Depot trailer rammed into Tatiana Pino’s car as she pulled into her driveway after a day of divorce proceedings in August 2023. Three vehicles have been set ablaze in two separate arsons at Tatiana Pino’s sister’s residence.” Tatiana Pino testified in court that her husband allegedly poisoned the Brussels sprouts she brought to a 2019 Miami “women’s Bible study” Friendsgiving, “an annual backyard dinner held by Lisa Lorenzo, a close Pino friend and host of a Christian podcast.” The Herald reported, “Guests were so sick that a squad of ambulances rushed more than a dozen women, including Pino, to the hospital.” The wife U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio fell ill as well. In a motion filed on July 5, Tatiana Pino’s divorce attorney said there had been another “attempt on Ms. Pino’s life just weeks ago at her home.” WPLG is reporting that Pino, 67, the founder of Century Homebuilders Group, described on its website as “one of the largest Hispanic Homebuilders in the nation,” died of “apparent suicide.” What appeared to be a standoff began today at about 9:30 this morning with “a series of loud bangs” that could be heard from about a block away. “Two helicopters hovered overhead at the waterfront estate, near the Cocoplum Yacht Club. Around 10 a.m., Coral Gables Fire Rescue arrived with lights on. Thirty minutes later, an ambulance left with lights on but no siren. Around 11:30 a.m., a van from the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s office arrived in the area.”Likes : 3

Caption : ¡Pobrecito, Pollo Carollo! The latest financial disclosure form filed by corrupt wife-beating Miami commissioner Joe Carollo “reflects a more than $66 million decrease from the $2.3 million net worth he reported last year,” according to the Miami Herald. “The disclosure paints a grim financial picture for the commissioner as he fights to protect his Coconut Grove home” (which he valued at $2.5 million and owes $265,000 on his mortgage) from seizure to satisfy part of the $63.5 million judgment plus $2.7 million in attorneys’ fees and costs he owes after a civil jury found he violated the constitutional rights of Little Havana businessmen Bill Fuller and Martin Pinilla for political retaliation. The city’s insurance company is suing in federal court claiming it is not responsible for millions in Carollo’s legal fees. “The city has been covering Carollo’s legal fees in the Fuller and Pinilla lawsuits, as well as the ongoing federal civil lawsuit filed by former Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo, who accused Carollo, the city manager and two other commissioners in 2022 of violating his First Amendment rights and illegally retaliating against him for ‘speaking out against corruption and abuse of power by the City of Miami Commission.’” Interestingly, Carollo does not list as a liability the reported $15 million he owes city taxpayers for paying his attorneys’ fees in a case where he was sued (and lost) in his individual capacity — or the multi-million dollar tax obligation he’d likely have in the event those payments are reported as “gifts.” Besides his checking account (which has less than $2,500) and his home, Carollo’s other major asset is his taxpayer-financed retirement plan, which is currently worth about $46,430.Likes : 3

It’s now $4.45 million. Since elected mayor in 2017, his net worth has INCREASED OVER 1,800% — DOUBLING each year in 2021 and 2022. In his first term as mayor, Suarez increased his personal net worth QUINTUPLED, from $245,015 to $1,338,551 between mid-2017 and the end of 2021. On top of his $130,000 city compensation (package plus $1 million in security theater that takes police officers off the street to attend parties and fundraisers), the part time mayor has over 15 outside jobs, mostly in the real estate and tech sectors, riddled with conflicts of interest. They include a secret side hustle getting $10,000-a-month for “unknown services” from a Coconut Grove real estate developer accused of fraud — that is reportedly the subject of a bribery investigation by the FBI, IRS and SEC.Likes : 3

Caption : Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and her corrupt and incompetent Chief Operating Officer Jimmy Morales hired a fraudster and money launderer who spent nearly 12 years in prison for embezzling taxpayer money from public contracts to oversee county contracts — and promoted him! #BecauseMiami According to Miami New Times, Christopher Kovanes was arrested in November 2005 for embezzling almost $500,000 while working as a town administrator in the Broward town of Davie by “awarding town contracts to phony companies he set up and pocketing the money.” He pleaded guilty to felony fraud and money laundering and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, then probation until 2029. Three years after his release, in March 2022, he was hired as a part-time PortMiami passenger safety officer. Six months later, he was promoted to the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation & Public Works as an administrative officer, tasked with overseeing department contracts and preparing bid proposals! A scathing Miami-Dade County Office of the Inspector General report says the county failed to do a criminal background check, vet his resume, which was filled with “sham references” and lies (including phony work experience that would’ve occurred DURING THE TIME OF HIS INCARCERATION), or even bother to Google him. They also failed to “properly evaluate his criminal history prior to his promotion — a blunder that allowed him to advance to a role where he had access to sensitive financial information, which the OIG notes is “a direct correlation to his criminal history.’” After the OIG investigation, he was terminated for lying on his original application, but they concluded “that Miami-Dade County had ‘no formal policy or procedure’ requiring departments to review employees’ criminal history when they change job positions or transfer departments.”Likes : 3

Even the city’s own insurance company is suing the government to stop the abuse! #BecauseMiami TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars a year are paid to so-called “outside counsel” who ring up legal bills, filing frivolous motions and appeals, with absolutely NO accountability or transparency. Fired city attorney “Tricky” Vicky Mendez covered up public records that would reveal the extent of the expenses — and new city attorney George Wysong, who has worked in the office since 1994, has not yet been forthcoming. Defendant commissioners like judgment debtor Joe Carollo, enabler Manolo Reyes, and disgraced arrestee Alex Diaz de la Portilla, along with Hardemon Crime Family capo Christine King, breached their fiduciary duties to the taxpayers and conspired against their own constituents to protect a racketeering organization masquerading as municipal government. They wrote a blank check to unelected officials like city mismanager and overpriced furniture hustler Art Noriega in the ultimate act of taxation without representation. This must stop! Joe Carollo MUST IMMEDIATELY PAY BACK the alleged $15 million debt he owes the city — he can start by pledging his Coconut Grove house as collateral, if it doesn’t get seized to pay the $63.5 million corruption judgment against him — and city commissioners should order the city attorney to disclose all payments to outside lawyers online monthly. @iamchristinekingLikes : 3

In an undercover operation, agents for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency were directed by money laundering brokers from the black market exchange to deposit millions of dollars in various accounts related to different Sefira properties in 2018 and 2019.” Three days after filing the complaint, prosecutors reached a settlement with Sefira. The company agreed to forfeit $22.5 million and pay $6.5 million in lieu of giving up several properties. Prosecutors didn’t bring any criminal charges against Sefira or its co-founders. Under the settlement, the company and its employees didn’t admit any “liability, fault, guilt or wrongdoing.” — via The Miami HeraldLikes : 3

Díaz de la Portilla’s former chief of staff, Karla Fortuny, has accused him of sending “unsolicited and unwanted text communications” that are “intimidating and obviously meant to tamper with my presentation of complete and truthful testimony regarding my time as an employee of the City of Miami,” according to a prosecutors’ motion.
“This conduct is extremely intimidating,” Fortuny wrote in a petition. “The respondent knows that I am listed as a prosecution witness in [the case] in which he is a named defendant. He also knows that I am represented by counsel. Regardless, he stalks me via texts and now has used a ‘burner phone’ to text my supervisor at my current job.”
According to the Miami Herald, “on May 20, Fortuny’s current boss received a text message from an unknown number, alleging that Fortuny received thousands of dollars from another witness in the case. ‘… More to come in depositions,’ the text said, according to a screenshot included in the filing.

High-profile Dems including Minority Leader @FentriceDriskell and Miami-Dade Commission Chair Oliver Gilbert ogilbert3 @chairmangilbertsoffice made a DEAL with Republicans to NOT challenge Lopez and proactively DISCOURAGE potential challengers, FORFEITING one of the ONLY contested partisan race the local party can win this cycle. Caption : #BREAKING: Women DO NOT have the right to choose in Daniella Levine Cava’s office Miami-Dade Mayor Levine Cava, her political puppeteer Christian Ulvert, and chief of staff Johanna Cervone forced candidate JennyLee Molina to drop out of Florida State House race in District 113 by bullying her and threatening her job as mayor’s digital strategist, campaign sources say. The week of May 13th began with communications expert and 305 Cafecito and 305 Day founder Molina CONFIRMING with her boss Levine Cava and the Miami-Dade Ethics Commission that she could run against Republican incumbent @vickilynnlopez — without resigning from her job as the mayor’s digital strategist. After all, Levine Cava’s endorsed candidate for sheriff, the grossly unqualified James Reyes, has not resigned as Miami-Dade Chief of Public Safety — a position the mayor politically promoted him to ahead of the election in order to beef up his weak law enforcement credentials. Double standard? The week ended with Molina FILING to run — Democrats have a 12% advantage in HD113, making it one of the party’s ONLY flippable Miami-Dade state house seat — and then, following a dizzying series of calls between Cava, consultant cartel boss Ulvert, and Cervone, WITHDRAWING from the race a day later. Caption : Sex abuse survivor speaks out against Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle’s sweetheart plea deal with man who allegedly molested her since she was 9 — that would keep him off the Florida sex offender registry #BecauseMiami TODAY, Miami-Dade prosecutors from @saomiami will ask a judge to change a plea deal with alleged child molester Albert Bassett, now 90, so he won’t be forced to register as a sex offender. Due to his age, Rundle’s office says, registering could force him to move from his home. Pobrecito! Keisha Etienne says Bassett was like a father to her, but she was “groomed…molested, sexually abused, exposed to pornography (and) mental turmoil” by him for nearly a decade starting when she was just nine years old — and she wants the judge to reject his new deal. “I think that frankly second only to the horrific acts of sexual abuse my client endured is the gaslighting and silencing throughout the decades,” Aaron Karger @aaklaw, Etienne’s attorney said. Claire LeBlanc, Public Information Officer for the Office of State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle says: “As this is an open, active criminal case presently before the court, it would be inappropriate for the SAO to comment.” Watch Full Video at CBSmiami.comLikes : 3

He will not have to register as a sex offender and plans to work at his family firearms training school. #BecauseMiami #BecauseHialeah Menocal wants a judge to modify his probation to possess guns so he can work at the firearms facility owned by his dad — a corrupt Miami cop caught on tape in the 1980s plotting a cocaine heist with his cop twin brother, and later became Sweetwater Police chief. In 2016, despite Hialeah Police Internal Affairs having evidence that Menocal committed “unlawful sexual activity” with minors and finding he broke over 20 department rules, Chief Sergio Velázquez gave him a raise and lied to the press about it. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle — who never charged a law enforcement officer with an on-duty killing during her entire 31 years in office — cleared Menocal, lied about interviewing his victims and then her office said they “lost much of the investigative file.” In the close-out memo, assistant state attorney Johnette Hardiman blamed the victims, describing them as “gang” members, called one “a bi-polar chronic runaway” and wrote “none claimed outright force or threat, just authoritative pressure” from a uniformed, armed police officer. The co-author was her then supervisor now former executive director of the Miami-Dade Ethics Commission who was just rehired by Rundle to help clean up a misconduct scandal involving veteran prosecutors disqualified from a death penalty case for alleged witness tampering, obstruction of justice and plotting to murder a witness. In 2019, after Hialeah PD and Rundle covered up the crimes of this alleged serial rapist cop, the FBI arrested Menocal. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to abusing victims, ages 25, 17, 19 and a woman of an unspecified age who was having a mental health crisis.Likes : 3

Biscayne Park Chief Luis Cabrera resigned last week, one month after being placed on leave for three questionable hires:
Cabrera made Benny Lee a cop despite having been “fired by two other local law enforcement agencies.” Lee is now fired from Biscayne Park and currently under criminal investigation “for improperly removing personal belongings, narcotics, and firearms from BPPD’s evidence room,” according to WPLG.
Village Manager Chris Truitt says “Jose Castro has a lengthy criminal history including assault and battery, domestic assault, a weapons violation, and...impersonating a police officer,” but, WPLG reports that Chief Cabrera appointed him to a newly “created…volunteer background investigator position” despite the fact that he would have been disqualified had Cabrera not bypassed background checks.
While employed with the Village, Castro worked private security for Shakira, an investigation found, and “detained a trespasser at (her Miami Beach home at) gunpoint, called 911 and falsely identified himself as an off-duty Biscayne Park police officer. Castro is not a police officer and is not authorized by the Village to openly carry a firearm.”
Castro’s son, Chris, “was hired despite being terminated from another law enforcement agency and having 6 internal affairs investigations... He has since been terminated for failure to complete probation due to...mishandling of evidence and receiving several complaints from citizens.”
Cabrera has previously been accused of “batshit crazy behavior” as Miami Police deputy chief once allegedly “led from headquarters after breaking down in a crying jag when told by then Chief Miguel Exposito that he would no longer be allowed to work in the police department.” The Crespogram reported “Cabrera was saved by his alleged Godfather [then Miami mayor] Tomas Regalado” and eventually allowed to retire with full public pension.](https://www.gethucinema.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Billy-Corben-8-3wQh0T629.jpg)

Castro is not a police officer and is not authorized by the Village to openly carry a firearm.” Castro’s son, Chris, “was hired despite being terminated from another law enforcement agency and having 6 internal affairs investigations… He has since been terminated for failure to complete probation due to…mishandling of evidence and receiving several complaints from citizens.” Cabrera has previously been accused of “batshit crazy behavior” as Miami Police deputy chief once allegedly “led from headquarters after breaking down in a crying jag when told by then Chief Miguel Exposito that he would no longer be allowed to work in the police department.” The Crespogram reported “Cabrera was saved by his alleged Godfather [then Miami mayor] Tomas Regalado” and eventually allowed to retire with full public pension.Likes : 3

I did it and I’m not sorry. 2. Don’t you know who I am? 3. F*ck the First Amendment! If you’re a lawyer desperately looking for a new job, it would be self-destructive to write something this deranged, that prospective employers could read… at MiamiHerald.com. @iamchristinekingLikes : 3

#BREAKING: Third Time’s the Charm! After two prior dismissals to amend, Federal Judge Federico A. Moreno has ACCEPTED and is PROCEEDING with the Plaintiffs’ Second Amended Complaint in the BLOCKBUSTER “Carollo Cabal” lawsuit against the City of Miami and 11 individual city employees, accusing them of “engag[ing] in a well-known, widespread and pervasive custom of weaponizing City resources to target and harass” in violation of the Constitution. #BecauseMiami
The new 644-page complaint filed by the Little Havana business owners who last summer won a $63.5 million corruption judgment against Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo, relies heavily on testimony and evidence already successfully litigated in that case, and reads like a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) indictment.
An earlier draft of the suit referred to the defendants as the “Carollo Cabal” (aka Miami Mafia) — including Commissioner Joe Carollo, his chief of staff William Ortiz, city manager Art Noriega, disgraced fired city attorney “Tricky” Vicky Mendez, assistant city attorney Rachel Dooley, building director Asael “Ace” Marrero, zoning director Daniel Goldberg, fire marshal Adrian Plascenia, unsafe structures chief Rene Diaz, and building official Luis Torres — who allegedly conspired to weaponize city government for political revenge to target Bill Fuller and Martin Pinilla and their various properties and business in and around Calle Ocho, including the historic Ball & Chain nightclub, and repeatedly violate their constitutional rights.
City of Miami taxpayers are paying for 23 lawyers to defend the alleged corruption in this one case, which is set for trial in the fall and could bankrupt the city. @iamchristineking manolo4miami francissuarez @usao_sdfl](https://www.gethucinema.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Billy-Corben-1-Cx5iz34477.jpg)

The building last sold in 2014 for $57 million. Cava’s administration of land hustlers now says the $205 million price from December has been negotiated down 11% to $182 million — still over $70 million above market value according to two county-commissioned “independent appraisals.” “The cost is too high, and we cannot afford it,” then-interim Solid Waste Director Olga Espinosa-Anderson wrote in an Oct. 16 email to Alex Muñoz, the department director overseeing real estate deals for Cava, concerned that her agency’s rent would double. According to the Miami Herald, they pay about $1.3 million in rent at a county complex by the MLK Metrorail station, but Cava’s plan would cost them $2.8 million a year. Espinosa-Anderson wanted to “rent cheaper space off Florida’s Turnpike at a commercial complex called Flagler Station” that would charge about $400,000 less per year than Cava’s proposed government center. “In March, Cava went outside county government to hire a new director, longtime municipal administrator Aneisha Daniel, who had previously worked as an assistant director in Solid Waste,” demoting Espinosa-Anderson back to her former position of deputy director.Likes : 3

Caption : New documents reveal Miami Mayor Ponzi Postalita Francis Suarez was secretly paid at least $200,000 — more than previously known — to exploit his public office for private profit by scandal plagued developer Rishi Kapoor, and the mayor was recently subpoenaed by the SEC in fraud case against Kapoor #BecauseMiami The secret $10,000 a month gig is just one of 15 side hustles, riddled with conflicts of interest, for the part-time mayor who gets $130,000 from the city — plus $1 million in security theater that takes police off the street to attend parties and fundraisers. Suarez’s net worth exploded from NEGATIVE $100,000 when elected city commissioner in 2009 to $4 million today. Since elected mayor in 2017, he has QUINTUPLED his wealth — DOUBLING it each year for the last two years. Last year, Kapoor’s world crumbled into foreclosures, fraud allegations, and investigations by the FBI, SEC and IRS. His shady dealings are connected to at least three local mayors: Suarez, @MayorVinceLago of Coral Gables, and @MayorBovo of Hialeah. Miami Herald: Kapoor hired Suarez in July 2021 to help push legislation beneficial to a $70 million Coconut Grove project. The next month, the two had a secret meeting at the Cocoplum Yacht Club on Kapoor’s yacht “in which Suarez spent two hours with Kapoor in what appears to be his mayoral capacity at a time he was also on the developer’s payroll… The details of Suarez’s contract, and in particular its start date, are more broadly relevant as Miami-Dade County ethics officials, state prosecutors and federal authorities, including the FBI, investigate whether the mayor misused his public office for private gain.” According to records, Kapoor met with Suarez and city manager @artnoriega to discuss a zoning hurdle that, without a waiver, would have required an expensive redesign. Later, with the help of the mayor’s office, Miami Zoning Director Daniel Goldberg changed his position on the matter, saving Kapoor millions of dollars.Likes : 3

![Billy Corben - 3 Likes - Taxpayer subsidized foreign owned private company @GoBrightline announces 251% increase on ticket packages for frequent commuters — from $399 to $1,400 — starting June 1st #BecauseMiami #BecauseFlorida
Currently commuters buy 40 one-way tickets to all destinations between West Palm Beach and Miami for $399. Starting June 1, Brightline will offer packages of just 10 tickets, and are offering the first 10 for free. But after that, the 40 tickets will cost commuters $1,400— a 251% increase, according to WPTV. Brightline has the dubious distinction of being the deadliest train per mile in the U.S.
In 2023, Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Capital in the United Arab Emirates acquired 90.01% of Brightline’s parent company Fortress Investment Group.
Brightline came to be after then-Florida Governor Rick Scott, declined $2.4 BILLION in federal grants from the Obama administration in 2011 to build high-speed rail between Orlando and Tampa. Scott then invested over $3 million in Fortress which started Brightline, "the [self-proclaimed] only privately owned, operated and maintained passenger rail system in the United States,” first to run between Miami and Palm Beach, and later made an unsolicited proposal for rail service between Orlando and Tampa.
State and local taxpayers in Florida have spent HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of public dollars subsidizing the overpriced death train, in some cases paying outright to build train stations. Miami-Dade taxpayers, for example, committed $75 million just on Brightline’s Aventura station.](https://www.gethucinema.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Billy-Corben-20-wiUd2l4192.jpg)
