Pratibha Ranta Instagram – When Pratibha Ranta signed up for Laapataa Ladies, she knew it may not be a commercial film, but it was destined for something bigger. Cut to now, the movie is India’s official entry for the Oscars. She shares that she was in a meeting when she first heard about this news. “Suddenly, my phone started beeping constantly. The moment I unlocked it, my WhatsApp was flooded with congratulatory messages, and that was when I found out. Long back, we would actually sit together and hope for this,” she further adds. Needless to say, it was a surreal moment for Ranta, after all, it’s not every day your debut film ends up receiving such an accolade. Her performance as Sharma, the daughter of courtesan Waheeda in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar also played a huge role in really putting her on the map.
