Greta Thunberg Instagram – Today, the Swedish police demolished the last student encampment in the world, located at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The encampment was in solidarity with Palestine and was one of the longest in history, lasting 192 days before being demolished by the authorities. Its end came after the Swedish Liberal Party applied for permission to hold a demonstration at the same location as the encampment. Ironically, their demonstration was in support of “freedom of speech and the right to protest,” a glaring example of hypocrisy, as they sought to remove the students’ encampment—a peaceful form of expression—to make room for their own.
The students attempted to resist the police by chaining themselves together in protest, but the police arrested several of them during the intervention.
This action represents a continued violation of students’ rights across the country and clearly demonstrates where the Swedish government stands. It also reaffirms their complicity in the ongoing genocide through their support of the terrorist-state Israel.
