I was overcome with emotion at the thought of being able to sing one of your beautiful songs FOR YOU! And what a beautiful road of memories that night led to! Thank you for seeing the gift that God placed in me with such clarity and affirmation. Thank you for lighting up every room you entered, for your advice, for your guidance, for breathing life into and over so many incredible musicians that have made this world a brighter place for decades! You are the epitome of a GREAT ancestor and mentor and I will always cherish your essence for as long as I live. What a beautiful thing it is to have even played a small part in your legacy. Honoring you at the 53rd Annual Montreux Jazz Festival remains one of the most beautiful memories of my entire career/life! And I will never forget sharing “Always Love” with you before it was out in the world and hearing you sing that chorus back to me🥲 I cried that night, because having my gift affirmed by you was something of dreams that God had gifted me in real time.
