Some pictures of all my recent insomnia purchases. If I can’t enjoy true and restful sleep ever again, then I’m going to forget I purchased a weird vest for 16 dollars, act shocked when it arrives, take mirror selfies in which I’m too self conscious to make any face but one that says “oh, well” and then force my husband to document my fashion (mis)adventures like it’s the halcyon days of MySpace circa 2005.

A very special edition of #LDbookclub to announce the publication of DIDION BABITZ by my favorite narrator of (naughty) literary history, @lilianolikwriter. It’s not an overstatement to say I’ve waited for this book like some people wait for a streetwear drop or Oasis reunion tickets, and it lived up to every dream I could have had. Enjoy this deep dive into a pair of women who are both separated at birth and embodying absolutely opposite poles of the American psyche. It’s rare you have two of your favorite writers explored on a parallel track, and the humor, insight and specificity of this is just… sooo dope. Congratulations Lili!
“I’m not voting for Kamala Harris because of her gender. But it is a buoy of hope—that someone with a more intimate understanding of these injustices will have the empathy and equilibrium to make moves to correct them. That the people she places power in the hands of will use it to empower. That the literal and figurative cost of living in a marginalized body will decrease, as access increases… The definition of pro-life to me is a leader who wants to give every existing member of our society the greatest chance not only to survive, but to thrive.” If you only read one thing I’ve ever written, I hope it’s this essay for @voguemagazine on what I wish I’d known as a first time voter. If you think your participation at the polls is meaningless (as I did 20 years ago) the fact of our continually decaying health care system should move us all, because at one point or another it *will* touch us all, just as it touches every aspect of our society and furthers injustice around every corner. Your vote really *is* a matter of life and death. And I am proud and hopeful as I cast my vote for Kamala Harris. Link in bio (and swipe right for my 2016 election look…)

The moment I heard @attawalpa’s voice in the pods on Love is Blind Season 682, I knew that he was a real man, a good man- so many thoughtful gestures that showed me he wouldn’t care what I looked like when I walked out on the reveal (and by the way, what’s not to love!? He had to get these glasses just to appreciate my fine ass even more!) While he wasn’t completely honest in the pods (he DOES breed raccoons, despite saying he didn’t know “what they even are”, and he’s not actually an investment banker as he originally stated) I knew he was just learning to be vulnerable- and vulnerability is beautiful because, well, it’s real. Our three weeks living together in an apartment complex in Tulsa (along with all our amazing new couple friends from the experiment- shout out Maggie, I’m sooo sorry that Jared turned out to be a Juggalo but never regret opening up!) we disagreed on a lot, and I didn’t love having to explain that all females don’t have a single udder but some in fact have two separate breasts, lol! But I also got to know his heart- and he’s still the man I met in the pods, even IF his IDs were bought off of the dark web. As I walked down the aisle, I knew there was only one answer for me (unless his sister showed up again, then it was a big fat no- luckily that wasn’t actually his sister but an actress he met in an improv class, so we are all good!) I. DO. Here’s to forever, baby. Stay tuned for the reunion, when Nadia is going to know the meaning of real pain- but cant wait to see everyone else lolololol #loveisblindnetflix #loveisreal #couplegoals (no but seriously this is real Lena now and season 7 of Love Is Blind makes me feel like nothing can compare to this unscripted magic- shout out to our queen Marissa, you will find that man who worships your energy but I wished I could hug you through the screen when you cried. Garrett and Taylor, I hope you have science genius babies and a magical life of ethical spear fishing. Deepest thank you to all involved. Happy LIB S7 reunion day!)
Locked picture on our show on Friday. Too Much is getting too real… Spent Saturday chatting with my beloved @christopherkane at the @britishvogue Forces of Fashion event- where I was tasked with walking a catwalk with zero preparation or training (thank you to Vogue for never ceasing to challenge me and to my @le.monde.beryl flats so that this disability girlie didn’t bite the dust.) Saturday night at the movies watching Tilda & Julianne in new Almodovar (pantheon of Gods) and then snuggled in for so many episodes of Rivals that I now feel strongly I must become the first equestrian champion to hail from Broadway between Prince & Spring. Sunday Lu made feta eggs on a gluten free bagel and we gabbed from sunrise to sunset. Did the kind of Google deep dive that takes me from Linda Manz to Shirley Clarke shooting Portrait of Jason to Ralph Fiennes’ Hamlet to Jayne Mansfield’s Pink Palace to Gia Marie Carangi and Sandy Linton on the beach in St Barth’s. Images to live by. It’s too easy to forget what we’re working so hard for, why we do what we love and who we do it for. Here’s to being reminded. (And here’s to my 4 piece set from the genius @imi___studios)

This month, we’re focusing on stories from the entertainment industry: while it may seem like rarified air, Hollywood is a microcosm, where movie sets are little universes and the ups and downs of a career have something to say about the endless yet never-enough journey we take as human beings. One book that brilliantly uses fame as a lens through which to understand the need for connection is From Here to the Great Unknown, Riley Keough’s stunning duet with her mother Lisa-Marie Presley. Had chills at least once a page as it summed up so much about being a daughter, a mother, a sister and an artist with an unparalleled tenderness. Bruce Eric Kaplan’s They Went Another Way is a droll study in the disappointments of a writer’s career, proving that they too can be turned into an act of creative defiance. Bruce is so funny it makes me want to dress as him for Halloween (baseball hat, t shirt, slight frown.) Let me know if you have books in this genre that are must reads, and tell us what you’re thinking as we read along together #LDbookclub #hollyweird
