My first reaction to coming in at #5, is that I’m terrified to tell my mother I didn’t make top three.

I’ve survived the last year, so that’s something. If I were an Arab journalist “stirring the pot” about war crimes in Gaza and reporting from the Middle East instead of Sydney, there’s a good chance I’d have been taken out by the IDF like 140 Palestinian journalist in the past 14 months. So, let’s raise a glass to the fact that I haven’t been snipered and somehow made it onto this list.
Sure, the pro-Israel lobbyists tried to career-assassinate me, and the ABC is dabbling in lawfare, but I’d like to think I’ve shown that pushing back against powerful institutions not only holds them accountable—it gives you an even louder voice.
