It just dawned on me today.. Rakhi is so sacred in our country.. it’s a matter of honour, love, pride, self respect for men/boys to protect their sisters..
Dear brothers, wouldn’t it be easier to ensure the safety of YOUR sisters, by protecting the other women/girls in turn and promoting a safe environment for women at large??? And teaching your brothers/male friends to respect women?
Dear sisters, let’s take our safety in our hands by actively protecting our own brothers from regressive and harmful mindsets and love them enough to educate them about equality and respect.
I really really hope this resonates with someone this Rakhi.
My brother is special.. we all know, getting autos can be tough sometimes, specially during rains.. once he offered his fixed auto to a girl, cause it was raining heavily and took an extra hour and half to reach home.. he phone was unavailable and we panicked.. when i questioned him why out of concern, he simply said, cause i would like someone else to do that for you..
I dint know what to say.. only that I was so proud of him. Even being special, he understood something so basic that most of us totally equipped, people don’t.
