Here’s the latest update for the world’s largest health assurance scheme.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) in the cabinet meeting on 11th September extended the features of the Aayushman Bharat scheme for senior citizens above the age of 70, irrespective of their financial background.
Earlier the scheme focused on people belonging to weaker sections of society and provided :
1. A cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization across public and private empanelled hospitals in India.
2. Cashless access to health care services for the beneficiary at the point of service i.e the hospital
3. A cover of up to 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days post-hospitalization expenses such as diagnostics and medicines.
Previously these features were only for low income category families but now these will be available irrespective of anyone’s income bracket.
More details about this extension will be rolled out by the government soon. This is a great step for making healthcare accessible to all.
