Cynthia Erivo Instagram – In these strange days between Christmas and New Year’s, it feels like a lovely time to think of the things that we haven’t had a moment to think about.
Today I want to think about a couple members of my team, let’s call them the J’s.
@jasonbolden, @joannasimkin, and @johnmumblo.
Jason is the architect of style. Understated and chic beyond belief…He is advisor and exactor of all the extra, extraordinary style choices you bear witness to on me. I love fashion, and he makes sure that the fashion we choose feeds my soul! We’ve been doing this for quite some time, and the greatest thing about Jason isn’t just that he puts me in beautiful clothes, but that he make sure I feel beautiful in the clothes. He really cares about the person in the clothes. He cares about my heart.
Joanna is the mother of the group. She’s been with me since The Color Purple (2015), and still to this day she’ll cry when she hears me sing. She doesn’t want any moment to go uncaptured, and she doesn’t want me to forget any of the good stuff. She also makes me feel like my face was carved by the gods. My favorite saying of hers is “I just want you to look like you.” We play a little bit, but we never stray too far away from what God gave me. Honestly it’s probably part of the reason why I’m happy with what I see when I look in the mirror. I love me some Joanna.
Jonathan is someone you never see really, but he is always there. He’s always thinking, he’s always working, he’s always trying, and he’s always caring. He doesn’t really get thanked in public that often, so I want to thank you, Jonathan. Thank you for taking this ride with us. It’s been insane…here is to more! Thank you for being the glue.
Last but not least, a special bonus mention for @carmen.magic03, personal dresser extraordinaire. She let me pull her along on an insane ride from film to film, and through this incredible tour. She has done it with such kindness, patience, and grace. I hope she knows she’s stuck with me if she doesn’t she does now.
