Hi everyone and Happy September! I am writing with some exciting news! I have a brand new book coming out in April, 2025. It is titled “Love Letter to a Garden,” and it is an illustrated story about my long quest to create and sustain a garden. This all began with an interstitial I was commissioned to create for @Ted when, because of Covid, the conference went fully online in 2021. I had migrated to LA to be with Roxane at that time and began to make an LA garden after struggling for years (decades) to make one in NY. @makenna_good at @Timberpress saw both that visual story and one I created for @afarmedia after my expedition to Antarctica and invited me to write and illustrate a book about my efforts to create gardens in both Manhattan and LA. I’m sharing the cover of the book here for the very first time, and some random pages which feature my illustrations, watercolors and painted photographs. This introduction is in tandem with my move to @wordpressdotcom for my personal site, debbiemillman.com. I’ve been working with Wordpress for a year on this effort (after the @thewebbyawards winning collaboration on the @endthebacklog website for @thejhf). Working with Wordpress has been a DREAM. Thank you to the many, many people who have helped make this possible, especially Amelia Nash aka @amelia.of.all.things and Joe Korbel. And a note about the cover of my book! Several years ago, one of my brilliant students at @svabranding , Emma Herbolzheimer aka @emmaherb_ launched the paper florist brand @budswithmama for her 100 Day Project. I was inspired by her work and used one of my favorite of her creations as reference for my cover illustration. (Thank you Emma). AND FINALLY! I was invited by @Artinnovation to participate in a Times Square Billboard exhibition and took this opportunity to announce the coming publication of the book. It takes a village to do everything these days and this entire effort was a collaborative labor of love. Link to see my updated website and to read (and see) more, please go to the link in my bio or here: debbiemillman.com. You’ll also be able to get one of @roxanegay74’s splendid salad dressing recipes here in this Instagram post.
