Dolly Alderton Instagram – Ten years ago today my friend Florence Kleiner died, aged 19. Her family were generous enough to allow me to write about her in my memoir and dedicate the book to her.
One of the most quoted passages of the book on Good Reads is not from me, they are her words. This extract from her yearbook entry. Her wisdom continues to astonish me and acts as a mantra even in the hardest of times. My lifelong guru turned out to be a teenage girl.
She would have been 29 now, and I often think of all the work she would have created. She always wanted to be a writer and a director. I feel so lucky that I get to write for the both of us and so sad that I won’t ever get to watch and read all that she would have made. Today her sister Farly and I went out for breakfast and raised a Bloody Mary to her. Florence’s baby niece was on my lap, her middle name is Florence. She lives on in every way possible.
