I’ve been thinking about the “why” behind the rhapsody. I realized I was so moved by how open everyone was, one to each. By virtue of a shared joy in the music and respect for this artist’s story there was an instant camaraderie. The artist clearly set the tone. When you met someone, whether it was the person sitting in front of you with her friends, or in the lineup for the bathroom (which moved surprisingly quickly) or in the line for a #Vancouver famous Japa Dog you looked down and saw the bracelets. The friendship bracelets. And you felt a connection, however tenuous. I realized that a friendship bracelet is a childhood custom given at a time when we’re more open, before the world has done what the world can do over the accretion of time. The whole experience was not a calling back to childhood per se, but to that openness when you would meet a friend of a friend and simply be friends.
