Katori Hall Instagram – While Chucalissa might be the fictional town depicted in #PValley, it is indeed a REAL place.
Chucalissa Village is a Native American archaeological site and museum dedicated to protecting and preserving knowledge about one of the most complex Native societies in the South.
You can still visit the stunning mounds on these historic grounds and learn more about the Native American Mississippian culture.
Chucalissa just so happens to be a five minute drive from the old neighborhood and projects of Pussy Valley.
While Chucalissa still stands, Pussy Valley no longer exists having been demolished and replaced by a new mixed-income community in Memphis’ ongoing community revitalization efforts. (See last video slide)
My mother Camae, my partnah in these pics, has been my walking library, telling me stories about this area off of S. Third Street. Her memories became the foundation of my play Pussy Valley and now the tv series P-Valley. It may have disappeared, but at least we have our elders memories.
